Rust Claim

I'd definately get the rust sorted out before sale. As has been said, £10,000 is very ambitious - especially if it's not perfect.

i seen c43s full mbsh 80k mileage go for 5 grand 10k in this climate is really high mate

I know - I don't need to sell the car (could always send it to the family home to dwell) - maybe I'm just trying to scupper the deal. Have had some calls, one offer at £7.5k pending viewing. Let'see see if i can push him up otherwise I'm gonna hold out.

For top money I would want the car sorted,

That does sound a lot given the prices of new shape C32's

Nice car and ok its the v8, funny how no one is ever in a rush to sell their own car :)

I know you have spend a lot on it keeping it serviced, tyres etc etc but on the day when you do a autotrader search you need to find a buyer that will pay (a large) premium for this.

Good luck in your sale if you get the guy to buy at 8k I think thats a great price.

What are you after.

Just noticed its a saloon, I thought an estate...oops. Sounds even more pricey now. C55 several months ago for £12995 so they must be getting close to 10K ?

Again good luck and no harm in trying

I'm taking it tomorrow to have a quote on the rust spots. I'm not really sure what I want for the car, having invested so much time and money it's become part of the family !

I'm not being objective about this... I guess 'cos I haven't found a suitable replacement - yet.

Really, I don't need to sell it - honest guv :D

The trouble with cars is that you never get back the time and effort invested in them and very often you don't get back the money either. Just because you have invested lots of money it doesn't mean it is more desirable than another car of the same year and spec unfortunately. :)

Also now you have planted the seed its only a matter of time before its gone.

Hardly a bad move given the cars you may swap it for :)

It's like my old S-Class W220, i had it from new 2002 sold it in 2008 £15,000 of extras. Six years old 78,000 miles pristine condition.

You never get your money back for all those extras but it is a lot easier to sell, sold it for £12,000.

Peter (C43AMG),

Do you have the details of who you wrote to in escalation?

Hi Bobby,

I guess that it's going to be hard work getting them to do the work F.O.C as the car is out of warranty by quite some margin.

As I understand it, the warranty is for six years, extended to eight years under 'goodwill' providing the criteria are met (owned for more than six months, full MBSH, no previous paintwork repairs etc). The '30 year' Mobilo warranty is entirely different, probably won't cover the wheel arch rust etc unfortunately.

Best bet is probably to find a decent bodyshop who can tackle this privately for you as after Peter's troubles with the sunroof I think I'd like to choose who I entrusted to do the work for me.

When my claim was turned down by MB Stratford last year they sent me a quote to do the work at their bodyshop in case I wanted to pay to have it done privately there. Cost was >£3000 I seem to recall and this was for localised repairs to the arches only. I went to a local frim that specialises in body work on classic cars and he did a great job for <£250 (that's two hundred and fifty)! Repair is holding up well but there is a small amount of rust appearing in other places - I will probably have this attended to at the same place in 6 months time or so.

Not really what I expected to have to attend to on a modernish prestige car but I figure a couple of hundred quid every couple of years to keep it looking nice is wortth it.

Was that in London or Manchester?
