Rust on a CL500 (2000 model)

I've got to go down to Avonstrand (just around the corner) sometime. Could make it tomorrow AM if you want to to meet up.

Well I should be there (MB) around 10:00 AM the latest I guess.
I will PM you my number Roger.

Cheers
Vasilis.

Now the challenge is to find a decent cup of coffee in Romford!

Hahaha ... I do not know, not my area I am afraid, I have only been twice, and I must admit I was not impressed.

OK guys ... after a couple of weeks of chasing up from my end and from MB Service in Romford... at last the claim is accepted.

Repairing the bonnet corrosion, around the grille, both rear quarter panels to be replaced ... I have no clue how much would it cost... but it will be done for free under the 8yr good will gesture cover.

The only problem now is that I cannot give the car before 1st of September, and apparently they can submit the car 1 week after the claim. But the fact they want to keep the car for 5 weeks ... I hope they will be tollerant :-S

Congratulations. Romford do a good job so don't let this one slip.

The only thing they will not cover is a small rust in the engine bay as it appears to have a dent they said ... I might do that individually and pay for it... depends on the severity.

Best get it done at the same time. I had a small repair that Romford combined in at a very reasonable price.

Will do that more likely :-) ... I will just be back from holidays at this time... so I will be broke lol

Well it would only have taken a few days ... if it was only paint job...
but they need to replace both rear quarter panels... apparently this is a the time consuming problem.
Maybe aluminium is more fidley than normal metals ...

Update, 1st of September is not a problem and the car booked for then.

To be honest I am ... ok I think, lol , they offered me a courtesy car a 207... I might not take it... because of the parking permit sillyness :-S

Quarter panel is the rear wing and around it as far as I understand. I do not know if it will cover part of the C - Pilar.

sorry I missed this one earlier (I dont get on here often enough)

as you may have seen from the other threads I have a CL500 in for bodywork (rear 3/4 and c pillars, both sides)

one of my rear 3/4 needs replacing - and the old panel has already been taken off

i've been without my car for about 10 weeks now (all warranty and replacament car, smart and B class, hmmm...) I had a call from the garage last week to say that Merc can't justify making another at the moment so i'll just have to wait an indeterminate period.

this is presumably why they've accepted your 1st Sept date!

the job is fiddly (2 week job) but the have NONE in stock!

not happy (although, must say it's saving me a fortune!!!)

I am in the middle of writing to Merc explaining what they're going to have to do to sort this out (i've just written to Ikea so I am 'in the groove'!)

(quarter panel does not cover the c pillar)

So just to understand ... they have you on hold until they make new quarter panels?:crazy:

With my case I do not think they hada chance to deny my suggestion for 1st of Sept, as the 8 yr period ends on 6th of Sept. ... so the car will be in to be fixed before the ending date.

Avonstrand sorted out the talk with the MB dealer... and they were very helpful ...

My courtesy car will be a Peugeot 207 ... hahaha more likely I will use my '89 W124, but it hurts noone to have the 207 on standby I guess ...

that's right - my car is currently missing a rear 3/4 panel with no replacement on the horizon

the dealer was very helpful - from inspection to acceptance of claim took <24hrs and the car was in the next day for work to be started. I think they're genuinely surpirsed (and ashamed) about the time Merc are taking to prove a replacement car

meanwhile i've racked up about 5k miles in their cars

Lets see how it goes with mine... I would not like to insure a Group20 car.... and be without it for 2 months  while I drive an idiotic Peugeot 207 as replacement ...

What do you mean by replacement car??

the insurance is suspended excluding fire and theft (and costs <£400 per year fortunately!)

sorry i meant to say "provide a replacement part for the car", didnt mean to confuse - i think my fingers had gone to sleep at the end of the sentence!

OK car went in this morning and I got a Peugeot 207 Sport automatic. .. hahaha I did not see an automatic gearbox behaving this way before... lol.

4 weeks the earliest fix estimate

Good news ... got the car back last Friday, it is in an amazing condition!!! Avonstand knows how to well treat a car.
The only problem is ...when they removed the amps... they forgot to connect one cable so one amplifier is not working now.. but they have offered to take the car back and to sort it out. However I will do it my self.

They have gone the extra mile ... and they made the car like it came out of the factory now... cleaned to detailed from inside and they even cleaned the engine.

It might have taken 1 month and a half, however it was not the bodyshop's fault it was purely down to spare parts availability from MB.
