Hi, I have two small rust patches creeping from under the rubber seal just above the rear star badge on the rear hatch w210 estate , its where the rain obviously runs down to , how would this be tackled in relation to the fact the rear screen would need to be removed, well I believe it has to be removed to get at the rust and repair it . What should I do with it without breaking the bank or is this a stupid question ! Is this common ?

Depending on how much rust there is which you cant see, you might be better off/cheaper getting another bootlid

Believe it or not, as long as the car has a reasonable amount of MB service history you may well get the rust remedied under the paintwork warranty.

If the car does have a fair amount of MB history, take it to the dealer and politely (but firmly) ask the question. You have nothing to lose.

It needs to creep in at under 8 years old. At worst with a FMBSH you will get a contribution [had 50% on 3 wheel arches last year at 9 years old]

Do you have any expirience with this issue? I have the same problem on mine. Luckly I have spare tail gate from prelift model but needs painting...

Bought my S210 at 6yo.

Car had FMBSH to 4yo. Owner before me used a local (to him) garage.
I bought the car, took it to MB Macclesfield, booked in for a "B" service and asked about 2, rusty front wings being replaced.

Sent to MB bodyshop, agreed to replace both front wings and tailgate (I didn't ask about the tailgate because I hadn't noticed the small patch of rust on it) free of charge. :bannana:

Lucky you... I rang friendly dealer and they said if car is over 8 years Merc wont even look at it. :(

i had the same thing, they have tightend belts in, last year no probs out side 8 years, now not a hope..

What was warranty from time when they where sold? Because if its more then 8 years we could arrgue about that.

I brought my car about 4 weeks ago the warranty book mentioned 30years warranty provided it was serviced by mercedes within the last two years. Where does 8 years come into play? I am confused .

My E270CDi estate is rusting in exactly the same spot! Is it probable that there is a load of rust underneath? I'm not expecting any help from MB.

30 years is for perforation from the inside out.

The eight years reference is for goodwill repairs on cars with FMBSH, without previous paint repairs on the affected panel, and which have been owned by the current owner for 6 months.

MB have been known to be more generous and compromised on these requirements, but they're much tighter these days.
