Now have a S212 350 PETROL! . Did have 1992 W124 300E Ford Escort 1300E(now sold!)
I have a 124 300E that has no surface/body rust at the moment and I would like to keep it that way.Can anyone offer advice regarding the best way to ensure it stays this way.

I am Happy to use a specialist as long as they do a good job as I don't want to be retreating it every year.I would prefer clear protection as I think the black stuff can give the impression you are hiding something!!

Hello,

I did a little bit of rust proofing to my Estate late last summer. I need to finish it off, but I got most of it done. This is what I did.

I removed all four wheels, cover brake components with a black sack and wash the arch areas thoroughly. Once dry, I removed all the arch liners and liberally sprayed black Waxoyl in this area. I also removed the rubber bungs on both the front and rear inner wing areas, and sprayed waxoyl into the cavities.

With the car jacked up, I sprayed the cleaned and dry underside with the black waxoyl, covering pretty much everything in site. The rubber vented bungs in front of the rear wheels are actually exit points for the box sections accessible from the inner wing rubber bungs.

I sprayed right into the inner wing areas on the front wings, especially behind the front wings, where rust can start eating inside out.

Getting some of the clear waxoyl into the scuttle area, could be a good idea also. Make sure you clear out any leaves and unblock the drainage holes if blocked.

Next steps, I am going to remove the carpets and hammerite the hole area, then waxoyl into the cavities, possibly by drilling and bunging off.

I will also gave some of the suspension components a good hammeriting, just for good measure!!

And that's it really.

Whether you use Waxoyl or Ankor wax, neither of them last forever & should be reapplied every few years.

I tend to top up my Jags waxoyl compliment about once every 2 years or so :). Dinitrol is arguably one of the best, as regards protection and penetration, but it is pricey.
