hi. ive acquired a 78k w220 s430 with a full merc service history. one owner. the guy even had his tires and mot done at mercedes

anyway, being out of this 8 year 'goodwill' period, do you think they'd fix a couple of rust spots, or is it a definite 'on your bike son'?

It has a 30yo Rust Warranty that isn't worth the paper it's written upon.

If it was, there would be no goodwill system.

Is the rust from the inside of the panels?

well its just got some odd spots, like in the middle of the roof. that must be inside out unless a very small meteor has damaged mt paint. but proving in-out rust on a 14 year old car.. well it was worth a shot ;)

They'll check the thickness of the paint and if any body panel has been resprayed and you do not have a bill for it from an MB-approved body shop then I'm afraid it's the bike.. and on a car this age you would have to be very lucky for it to have an all-original paintwork.

So we are not talking rust spots, but holes right through from the inside?

Rust on the roof around the sunroof area is a known issue.

As are door bottom edges and wheel arches.

But hey, a fleet of Bavarian virgins scrupulously inspect every square millimetre of your car when it's in for an MB service to ensure that there is no rust anywhere (even under the paint) to ensure that your documented 30yr warranty is intact.

Bull and shyte come to mind.

.... and yes, I've owned a W220

Well looking at them again they seem to be outside in. Fair play though they must have primered the w220 with sea spray. Thank God it's saving grace is the airmatic. Oh, wait...
