Just had approval via MB Colindale for warranty rust repair works for my car.
Wings / Above doors - Usual areas.
I asked if I had any choice of repairer, they gave me M&A and Abbey.
Reading the various forum posts over the years, these 2 garages have not faired well for quality of work and make me nervous to say the least !http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif

Any current expereince of either of these outfits ?
Or advice on which to choose and how I could minimise grief.

Many thanks in advance.

I had mine done at M&A......at the time I was not impressed at all !!! However they are supposed to be one of the better bodyshops but the problem is they don't get paid much by MB for warranty rust repair work.

They did my bootlid about two years ago. So far it is still holding up.

Ive never tried the other one so can't comment on them

From what I have heard both body shops are bad as each other. Try going to another MB approved body shop via another dealer.

Thanks for the feedback gents. From your suggestions, Firstly, Do I have the right to put this warranty claim through a 2nd MB dealer / bodyshop ??-MBUK have already approved.Anyone else successfully gone through this same process ? Secondly, any recommendations for an MB bodyshop near MB Colindale ? ( I live in Harrow, Middlesex )

Thank you in advance.

Mike

You could ask them if they could do it inhouse at Mercedes Benz Brentford.

Your car will be off road for a long time in the bodyshop (mine took 3-4 weeks for 2 new front wings and a new rear tailgate) at MB in Manchester

However the car was 6 years and 2 months old when I bought it and I argued that the rust must have been there before the 6 year warranty ran out. So I was VERY LUCKY to get the work done anyway.

I AM the pickiest bugger on the planet and I was VERY impressed with the work they did. The guy at MB Manchester bodyshop is called Mike and HE IS A STAR. Great Bloke!

Given that your car will be off the road so long it may be worth travelling and having peace of mind rather than going loco 'cos you went local!:D

Which six year warranty is that.?
The perforation warranty is 30 years for a Mobilo covered car and general corrosion will be looked at for eight years under the Goodwill scheme, with safety items being covered for ten years.

The mb bodyshop had a staff notice in the office stating that 6 years was the time limit and that the car had to be owned for at least a year before any warranty rust repairs should even be given consieration.

My car is 02 plate 320 cdi est.

What is Mobilo? :o

mobilo is the continuous breakdown package offered FOC to owners of cars that have full MB service history. Part of that package is perforation warranty for 30 years.

I think your bodyshop was trying to disuade claims for rust.

Thanks for the info. I'm learning all the time. I didn't know such a thing existed:o

My local MB dealer is saying 8 years and they said that anything over 8years has been rejected by MB

I have read the T+Cs of my service book and the only condition that I can find is that the vehicle needs to have been serviced by MB in the previous 2 years prior to a claim.

Whilst not aware of these two bodyshops, I did get a claim agreed on my September 2001 W210 E430 last year (2008). There were rust bubbles appearin on front wing and rear bootlid around the number plate. Took a little bit of chasing with authorised service agent Rivervale at Portslade (near Brighton) but once on board they got the work agreed and local bodyshop Portslade Panel Works did the respray/preparation work needed.

I was second owner (purchasing in mid 2006) and only one non approved service in the car's history - just before I bought it. The 30 year warranty is excellent but as always read the small print - at least 2 yearly checks with authorised MB service agents needed to keep the thing going. Also, not sure that a re appearance of rust in an area already treated wil be looked at favourably !!!
