Rust!

I am thinking that as DM says, it`s due to skimping of the paint process. Could be intentional, - we`ll never know.

My 210 started in the usual way, ie round the bonnet star/boot lock etc. and then the wheel arches took on a crazed appearance, which has developed into flaking and bumpy rust. No structural rust as yet. It`s parked ouside the door; it starts instantly; it`s good on fuel, it passes it`s MOT; so in my eyes, it`s an ok motor. :D

Funnily my 203 is not showing any signs of rust yet, 03 reg., Made in S.A. Perhaps that`s a clue.

This is not only rust, its corrosion. Its from the inside out. They rot. Rust don't rot MB, corrosion does.
On my previous E the front , the middle ish, the back and the perch had to be welded due to corrosion. Brilliant!
As I said previously, there are metal fences here is Scotland that have been exposed to the weather for 200 years, and guess what, they are still standing strong. MB after 4 / 5 years start to already rot. After 10 years its structural damages. This is unforgivable for a company.

Did someone mention rust?

I don't think I've ever seen a Vito without rusty doors but that's shocking.
MB vans should be a cool, upmarket product, not a rusty joke. VW must find it funny though.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone,in summary it would seem all we can do is find a good mb,look after it & prey!:(
