Interesting comment in that article about changes to the COMAND display that will allow the passenger to watch tv/dvd while at the same time the driver will see the satnav display on the same screen.
Wonder what that will look like. Will the display be showing different things depending on the vision angle?

The Mercedes S Class has only been on the market for a short while but with rivals such as the BMW 7-series and Audi A8, the German manufacturer cannot afford to be complacent. Ahead of its launch our spies have caught a prototype shed of almost all of its disguise.
Clearly visible are the new front skirt and fog lights, a revised bumper, as well as the new side mirrors. There will also will be a modified layout of the headlights: while the flashers will move to the bottom of the units, LED daylight driving lamps will be fitted to the outer edges of the front lamp units. A slightly re-designed rear bumper and taillights without the coloured “metal” stripes will round off the facelift.
Engines are likely to benefit from a bit of emission busting tuning whilst the rumours state the model will be available with both petrol and diesel hybrids by 2010.

they keep making the grill bigger, and less elegant .. size is not everything !

Just noticed a little badge on the wing between the headlamps and the door, similar to the 'elegance' badge on the W204, wonder what if says? Hybrid possibly or is that too early

Cclass mirrors they look better on the SClass, don't like the exhausts the front is more interesting, more for your money as standard although bound to be more expensive.

anway, is it me or are All Mercedes morphing into Maybachs, rather than soften up the Maybach into Mercedes.

It is a fancy version of those postcards that you used to see at the seaside that wink at you as you pass them by (made from a series of vertical "toblerones").
When the driver and passenger want to see different things, the Comand system halves the vertical resolution of each content stream (e.g. Navigation picture for the driver and a movie for the passenger) and, by virtue of those toblerones, it is able to project an alternate line of each stream in the recipient's direction. Apparently (I haven't seen one yet myself) the results are very good and you don't feel the impact of the lost image data in the way that you might expect.
What's most interesting is that, when it was explained to me by an engineer developing the system (for another car manufacturer) he didn't find the need to use the word "toblerone" once....
It will be interesting to see if this makes it to the US market - the lawers are poring over this technology very carefully to see if it exposes them to possible litigation. The belief amongst the engineers I spoke to was that, if any one country had the enormous resources and jury-winning persuasive skills to develop a weasel-words law-suit to overwhelm the capabilities of the system, it would be the yanks.
I love the new S class... in every manner.. it drives like a new S class should and has all the new gadgets an S class should too...

Yes i must admit the more i drive mine the better i like it and people still stop and look, mind you with the AMG kit and the 20" AMG wheels and being in Obsidian why wouldn't they
I saw one with an amazing darkblue colour today, didnt get a photo though, maybe it was designo?

Agree with above...looks like a Maybach, which was designed specifically for Simon Cowell. That's never a good thing.
