Hi all
This is my first post, having just bought a 2004 S211 320CDi.
I have a Command NTG1 with what appears to be the original Nav DVD in the boot unit - version 3.
I have been looking into getting an update, have decided to give the £39.99 versions a miss - too good to be true and probably illegal - but have found Comand Online selling recent (v14) apparently OEM disks for £150.
I am prepared to spend that to get up to date satnav info but I am wary of the 10 year gap.
Can anyone advise me:
- has anyone any experience of commandonline.co.uk; and
- is it possible to update an NTG1 running v3 simply by switching to a V14 disk or is that too much to ask?

Any help would be geatly appreciated - £150 is a lot to take a punt with.

The guys at comandonline are the MB Comand gurus and will not put you wrong.

You are correct to be sceptical of copy discs, but once you know exactly what you need, you can often buy genuine MB discs - possibly current, possibly last years' - for considerably less than £150 off eBay - search comand NTG1 dvd on eBay Europe. You may well find someone who has bought v14 and is now looking to sell their v13 or v112 disc. Just make sure it's genuine MB!!

Whether you can go straight from V3 to V12,13 or 14 - I have no idea, but someone on here (possibly Alfie from comandonline) will answer. It may or may not require a firmware update, possibly via a Star machine, before the updated maps software will work - or maybe any required firmware update comes on the disc!

Thanks for that Chris - really helpful.
I had looked on eBay and not found much, but your search term came up with the goods
My main concern with eBay is knowing whether the discs are fake or not but there is indeed a good range on offer and I would assume someone selling a single disc, as opposed to someone with 10 available, is likely to be genuine so that should save me a few pounds.
I guess I will have to take a chance, see whether it updates the firm ware forrom the disc or not and, if not, go and see my friendly main dealer for a software tweak.

Call and speak to them, they are very helpful.

I have had work done on my car with them so they are safe.

Yes you can go straight to V14 from V3 as the necessary firmware that is applied is on the disk. Be sure to use a genuine one though even if its a slightly older one.

Let the update run. do not be tempted to abort it even if it appears to hang.

You have convinced me!
I looked on eBay and most of the discs seemed to be from Germany (OK but if something goes wrong it makes getting redress harder) or private individuals with more than one disc to sell, which sounds like pirated discs to me. The pictures looked genuine but I have been caught like that before!
No doubt if I had waited a clearly genuine one would have come up but I want this sorted for an imminent trip to Switzerland.
I am a believer in caveat emptor and you get what you pay for, so thanks for the reassuring endorsements and I have bought a disc from Comand Online.
Thanks for the advice.

Good of you to update the post - too often people ask for help, it is (as you have discovered) freely and honestly given, but we hear nothing further.

I'm sure you'll not regret dealing with Comandonline - I've not seen anything other than praise for them either on here or on MBOA, and they were most helpful to me when I first bought my S204 (previous S203 did not have Comand).

?? It seemed only polite!

As a further update, for anyone contemplating doing the same as me, the disc arrived this morning, was clearly a genuine Mercedes original still in its cellophane wrapper and took all of 4 minutes to load this evening (including the 2 minute wait to re-initialise the Comand) .
I now have a sat nav that recognises all the new local roads, have got rid of all the long closed petrol stations shwing in the POIs, have TMS for the first time and directions to Dubrovnik if I want to go there (perhaps not today).
Thanks again for the advice
Rob (one happy punter!)

Many thanks for your kind words.

We do try our very best to help wherever we can.
