S211 rust bubbles on tailgate

Cheers guys appreciate your help :-) Gunna word a strong letter to MB Milton Keynes FAO Mr CEO and just explain how poor this is you never know they might offer me a SLR Sterling Moss as a replacement..........

So I got the call this morning from MB redhill and they have told me that MB head office will not make any contribution towards getting my tailgate sorted and that the rust was down to stone chips!! I said to the guy that he knows as well as I that it’s coming from the inside out but there not budging. It basically comes down to MB service history(or lack of it) although the car has seen an indy throughout its life every 10,000 miles or so. So I guess I will have to get this sorted through a good bodyshop in Surrey, can anyone recommend one? I can’t be the first person this has happened to ;-( all the shine of a new car is washing away.......its those damn buyers eyes I had on.

Vehicle Repairs for all Makes & Models including Classic & Vintage Cars

If you search the forum you'll see that both have very good reviews, and both are realistic when it comes to prices.

Sounds like MB is battening down the hatches - worked out that they can not afford to keep mending cars a la 210 spending spree.

You could always go to an independent body work shop and ask them for a written quotation - on the basis that you intend to claim the cost from MB - ask them to add that the cause of the needed repair is corrosion from the inside and NOT caused by stone chips. Then send the estimate with a letter to MB stating that independent advice is in conflict with their assessment; therefore you will be arranging to have the repairs carried out to mitigate further deterioration to the car and will be claiming the cost back from them - they are free to re-inspect the car within the next 14 days prior to repairs being carried out.
Then just launch a small claims summons on them if they dont pay - they had their chance and you have little to lose - you need to get the car repaired anyway.

I can't see the rust being from the inside of the panel, it's almost certainly exterior corrosion, which is why it's not covered under the Mobilo-life 30 year corrosion warranty.
It does appear as though the goodwill dealer service centre won't get covered.

It could be coming from the inside if there was some contamination there from new - still astonishing that a 2003 Mercedes suffers this sort of corrosion however it is caused - I was really hoping that the w211 would have been the turning point in this saga.
If only the Beemer E61 had a bigger load area.....
