....in fact notwithstanding a tiny amount of corrosion only on the very inner lip right at the very bottom of the rear arches...

Looks like the S class is prone to rust also

Shame car has no xenon headlamps which are a must on every half decent car now (unless i have missed it off the option list...)

Yes, I was in a 1999 W220 S320 with quite a bit of rust on the bootlid. On an E-class it's bad enough.. but your S-class going rusty after 6 years?
It had well over 200,000 miles though.

it does sound high spec but still missing some of the options, such as rear TV, rear tables, coolbox etc.

A rusty bootlid has nothing to do with mileage!
