Quite difficult to explain but, when accelerating vibration starts at the rear for a few seconds, either accelerate harder, or slow down it will dissappear, car drives perfectly, can anyone advise what it could be, car has been to garage, they do not know what it is, HELP

It may be the glycol in the ATF issue which causes the torque converter clutch to judder.

Have a glycol test performed.

do i have to go to mercedes dealer for this test?

Yes, unless your indie has the correct procedure and test kit.

Mercedes MAY contribute if this is conclusive and found to be a faulty radiator made by Valeo.

The glycol fault is on the 203,211 and 209 . The 220 and 221 are not part of this, and have never suffered from the Rad leaking and the symptons are humming or droning on light throttle

Thanks malcolm, car is 53reg, someone said it could be the rear flex disc, does this make sense to you.

i have no idea, but you are right it is a 220.

thnaks Malcolm, i will get them both changed, do you think the parts are expensive????

thanks i will change them, i will let you know if it cures it, thanks for all your advice.

I know this will sound silly but are your rear tyres ok, check inner side.

I thought you'd already changed the flexible couplings?

If the car has been on a lift then I would've thought they would have spotted degraded components.

Hi Derik and welcome, is the car a 220 or 221

More than likely propshaft U/J or center bearing

Already replaced those made no difference

Swap the wheels front to rear, then check the gearbox and differential mountings and flex disks and centre propshaft mount, then have the torque converter clutch locked out.

The problem is only on light accelleration from what you say and this would fit with a slipping torque converter clutch as when loaded more heavily it disengages.

As a point of interest though the 203,209 and 211 were affected in a big way with the leak, there could be no reason at all why a rad cant spring a leak on any car. I believe that I have seen two cases of this on other cars.

Yes as dieselman says the symptons sound something like the Valeo problem.

Dealers can test the fluid with a glycol test strip, though many charge £70 to do this
