Apologies to the tw*t in the green van who tried to buzz me today - just coz I got you first - put brain in gear next time - you've no chance mate!! ;)

A friend was telling me about when he had to move his boss's 7 series BMW, the one with the twiddly control in the middle, it took him about 10 mins to figure out how to get moving

Cheeky - I'm well sorted with Merc's now, that funny foot/park brake jobby doesn't get me now :D bit of a bugger when they then chuck a Saab at me though  :D :bannana:

Guess I dont so bad for variety :D

And Lord Walker - as for Spaniels - bless their little hearts and puppy dog eyes - hah - think they've fooled me - no way - mine are the spawn of satan - at times  ;) Toby on the other hand is such a cutie :p

They have that same central ignition key set up on smart cars also.

To be honest it looks like the same key... different from an MB key more vauxhall. I think Vaux & Saab are both part of the GM family.

I think the 900 and the 9000 were the last of the "proper" saabs, the 93 and 95 etc are basically vectras underneath. The only reason you find turbos on astras etc these days is because they had to make them for saab anyway! :)

EDIT: I just realised that "motoring" chat is banned from the off-topic section, moving to general (how often does something get moved INTO general? ;) )

I was a SAAB man til I bought the C220 CDi and I loved the marque! The ignition key is positioned at the handbrake for safety reasons, so that your knee wont hit it in the event of a nasty crash. The ignition barrel is also shielded against the opportunist car thief. I always wanted to see the expression on some low-lifes face if they ever broke into (someone elses) SAAB and tried to rip off the steering colum to expose the inition heheheheheheh. The next think I always wanted was to be on the spot to nab them at it :bannana: :bannana:

Pammy - give us a quick line and let us know what you think of the SAAB. I was close to buying the 95 estate but opted for the C220CDI estate (which I know you love the handling of)

Give me the MB anyday!

The Saab was OK - but I really didn't like the gear box. In either standard or sport I was never sure it was going to do what I needed it to do when I needed it to do it. Was a tad sluggish :( in standard - sport was more feisty - but it did tend to take quite a while to engage and go.

It has a night light function though which I thought was well cool - flick the switch and all internal lights and dials go off except for the speedo. Can only imagine it must be very soothing for a night driving experience.

I can't wait for the day when Pammy's hire car is a Smart !! :D x10

oooh - you are just mean  :D would be fun though - can just see me blasting up the M6 and M55. It would certainly give my work chaps a giggle :D

Agree Pammy - SAAB has a "night" function where at the touch of a button all interior lights go out except the main speedo which is on rheostat. All lights stay off unless a critical function occures, eg fuel going onto reserve (then the fuel instrument illuminates etc ...). Main drawback with the SAAB is its lack of a silver star hehehhehehre
