Hi All

I am sad to report my 10 plate c class 350cdi is going. I have only had it 5 months and it's a great car but the running costs in this tough climate are just too much. I do a 50 mile comute each day with Mostly dual carriageway but some town driving and the best I have seen is 32mpg. If I hammer it I still get 30. I reckon I am putting in nearly £600 a month of fuel just to get to work and back! That is too much when you factor in £1200 a year insurence and £200 a month finance! Will miss the car loads especially watching traffic disappear in the rear view mirror!
Sorted out a new motor on Friday and the financial hit on part exchanging so soon after purchasing was sofened a bit as I got more than I had hoped for it.
I have enjoyed the forum and gained a lot from it so Cheers!

Michael.

Good Luck Michael what ever you drive next.
Stick around on the forum - you do not have to have a Merc to be a member.

I'm sure you will be back behind the "Star" one day.

+1 ^^^^

Out of interest, what are your replacing the C-Class with?

Yeah, I'm getting the same mpg on my E class which is working out at about 20p per mile in fuel costs.

It's sad to see that you're having to let the car go after you've enjoyed it so much, but I entirely understand.

Hi I have bought a mini cooper d clubman fom Soper Mini Lincoln. It was registered in Nov 2011 but has only done 20 miles as they were going to use it as a demonstrator but did'nt in the end. I have realistic hopes of seeing 50+ to the gallon and it's half the £1200 to insure! I know the clubman is a bit of a "marmite" car but I owned a cooper s 5 years ago and my other half has a cooper convertible so I am a fan of the brand.
I will have to get used to travelling at a more sedate pace but I reckon it will save me about £400 a month as I have managed to lose the finance owing as well.

Michael.

Nice choice, I hope it all works out for you.

I'm seeing and hearing more and more comments like the OPs - people who are really upset that they're not getting anywhere near the Government MPG figures, and people who thought they could put up with the fuel costs but when push comes to showe they just can't.

Good luck! A couple of friends of mine have Mini Coopers and are very impressed with them.

My 3 litre diesel W211 E class (facelift) gives me 44mpg easily on motorways, and costs 350 pounds fully comp for myself; with the Mrs as named driver and zero voluntary excess...

I get 40 - 44 out of my petrol 180k when I travel from Lincoln to Manchester along the A1 and M62, drops to about 24mpg for the 4 mile return trip to and from work (which I do as infrequently as possible). Seems pretty good by comparison

^ Me too (older IL6 engine 3.2cdi)

Less than £400 including the Brabus box

Seems strange to me people spending a huge amount of money to save some MPG's... yet lose a bundle in depreciation..

Seems odd that some owners get good MPG yet others report shocking MPG?

It's a bit odd that the OP gets 32MPG max but it only drops to 30MPG if he hammers it.

I can get 50MPG out of mine, but the slightest hint of pressing on (I don't do 'hammering'!) knocks 10MPG off. There's a knack to driving a deisel auto economically and it involves keeping your foot off the gas most of the time and never stopping!

... or braking! :D

You should have gone 220 CDI......

Hi Yes with hindsight that would have been better but things are a lot tougher at the moment and I fear a pay cut coming!
The 350cdi has been a joy to own and I would not hesitate to recomend Mercedes cars to anyone. Hopefully I can get behind the wheel of one in the future!
(btw now in the Mini Clubman and am very pleased with it so far)

Michael.
