Sat Nav disk for SL500 in UK

Hi

I've a 2002 registered SL500 and live in London - I've inadvertently broken my sat nav disk and can't be persuaded to pay the £165 Mercedes are asking for a new one.

Anyone know where i can buy a second hand one?

Will a disk from another Mercedes model work in my Command unit?

Surely as you already own the rights to use the software, Mercedes should give you a replacement disk for free or a minimal payment. Speak to the orig manu of the disk...
When you buy a comp game or CD you are paying for the content mainly and the media the content is on is secondary....Moan at Merc some more...Do you still have the orig disk as proof of ownership?

Would you expect a retailer to give you another copy of a game or CD if you had lost or damaged it? No, didn't think so!

Yes the retailer will give you another copy, if they won't, then the disk manufacturer will. If you damage a disk, you still own the software on the disk that you have paid for...This is what I am saying...... Check at the back of PC game boxes you can get a replacement if the disk is damaged....

I think you'll find manufacturers do it on a good will basis - and certainly is discretionary. Retailers would only replace it if damaged on purchase.

As I've said before, you are paying for the software or right to use the software. If the disk gets damaged, as long as you can prove you still have the disk and it has been paid for, they will replace.

A sat nav disk should be replaced on this basis.

Yo're right in saying that you pay for a licence to use the software, however the licence is valid only with the media it was issued on. If you were issued further media it would come with a new licence. The same applies for an electronic download - a certificate or licence is only valid for that download. The manufacturer is within it's rights to charge for issuing a new licence or else they would be liable for our scratched / damaged CDs and we could insist we were entitled to replacement.

A friend of mine has a 2000 prefacelift ML270 cdi with command and only has the germany disc (vehicle was an import) he has had the vehicle from new and keeps asking me where he would get a disc at the right money, can anyone help???
