"France produces WINE and CHEESE and has decent COOKING, all of which are IMHO substantial contributions which offset the negative points."

Lets not forget they also produce some very hairy women.

In defence of France, this close friend and neighbour is French:

She's also and a great cook and she loves cricket!!

I'm guessing that you have boycotted France all your life and never been there. I really like Southern France.

Agree southern france is nice for a holiday but the rest of it is just a bit rubbish, too many silly rules, too many wanna be communist peasants.

I like it so much I live there.

France is great, but the endless rules and regs are making visiting it a pain.

Do what everyone else does, including the French, ignore most of them.

The food is fecking great.

Frois gras to start with, then onto Veal cutlets on a bed of mushrooms, dophinois potato in red win jus....

Could you just rename the file within the POI that is speed cameras to something such as stationary Tree alert and change the icon to a Tree :)

Just take a chance, and if you get pulled over, remove said nav and hide it under the seat...

I am driving down there next month any suggestions on where to go and stay for 5 days (we are going to Spain first and then comming back into France for my 50th on the 27th) any info would help !

I would avoid inland, remote places as they can be a bit steady at night, if you want coastal Grau d'Agde is nice as a small fishing/tourist type location with history and great beaches, or Barritz, which is larger and more touristy, but great for surfing.

I wanting to travel further, the Cote D'Azure is good for night-life entertainment. No particular places to stay at, we've always just turned up and found somewhere, even in August. The only time we didn't do that was when staying in juan le pins as a group for a long weekend....God, what a weekend... :D

Depends what you like, and where you're heading back via.

We are open to suggestions as I have never been that way before,I would like to celebrate my 50th in somewhere sunny but not to busy,I dont drink a lot due to my job and I will have my 14 year old son with me (and my wife of course !) So sea side is perfect but with something to keep my son interested and not to expensive. We are planning 5 days there on the way back from Spain then heading home.

Got a kenwood system in my truck (standard fit). Speed camera alerts are built in, but they are only based on a historical data base of fixed cameras. It does not "detect" cameras/radar/etc

But in France the database is now illegal

The internal memory of any (a rash statement I know) Kenwood unit can be hooked up to a laptop via usb. Turning the unit on should trigger a prompt for "mass storage" or "navigation" mode. Mass storage mode means the contents of the "device" are visible using windows. There are plenty of resources on the net to show you to update the OS, Mapping, POIs, voices etc. Some are even legal.
So your POI db could be updated with a new db without the French cameras (new db on internet somewhere) very easily. Copying data into a kenwood unit from a laptop can take a long time so a good battery charge or extension cable to power the laptop are required. noeman.org or gpsunderground.
