Hello everyone. I am new here and I appologise if this has already been asked / answered (I did look but couldn't find the answer to this specific SBC question).

I recently purchased a 54 plate E270 and within a day the dreaded 'Service Brake - Visit Workshop' message came up. Returned it to the dealer at the weekend who said that he suspected it was the SBC pump that needed replacing. After doing some research on here I discovered all the issues with the SBC unit on the W211's and was horrified! Anyway, the dealer came back to me today and said that Mercedes had diagnosed the fault and found it to be the 'SBC Control Module' and not the pump it's self. Will replacing the control module also reset the counter on the pump? I will be gutted if the pump its self is going to expire in the not to distant future and cost me an arm and a leg! Any help or advice would be most appreciated! Thanks guys!

if you have just purchased the car ( within last 6 months) it "should" be the dealers problem unless it was pointed out to you as being defective at the time of purchase

They can be re-coded. No need for replacement.

BBA charge £500 iirc.

I do it for £250.

Thanks for this. Are the SBC pump and SBC Control Module two separate components?

the SBC unit is 1 complete unit, control unit & pump in 1

SBC or ESM?

OK, so the dealer that I purchased this car off originally told me that Mercedes have diagnosed the "Service Brake - Visit Workshop" fault to be the "SBC Control Module". It turns out that this is not the case as when I received a copy of the diagnostics from them it says, and I quote:

"Investigate SBC message on. Found SBC hold on carried out checks traced to faulty electronic selector lever control module. New module required"

This sounds to me that actually they have diagnosed another fault with the car which causes the "SBC Hold Unavailable" message to be displayed. I had noticed this and mentioned it to the dealer but my main concern was the "Service Brake - Visit Workshop" issue. Can anyone who knows more about this than I do tell me if the ESM has anything at all to do with the "Service Brake" message or is this (as I suspect) two different faults? Also, why is it that Mercedes did not find the original fault when they ran their diagnostics on it?

Again, any advice would be really helpful!

What error code are you getting? I had mine diagnosed using a mercedes dealer diagnostic and then renewed by a company just down the road from me. They claim to have to done loads of them and to be honest... when they had me in and out within 30minutes, i was more than impressed!

You can find them on google easily or...
