SBC Hold Function

;)SBC is a standard feature of all the E-class 211's. If your car is pre facelift then it will will only have SBC Hold and NOT SBC Stop. At first my wife had an extremely hard time using this feature and there is a knack. To my knowledge it does not need any type of activation, just practice. I have no experience of the very latest facelift models which no longer use the same system.

Is there any E-class owners that live near you that you can compare notes with?

Finally discoverd that this does work! Certainly not an item in any of my menus but 'jab' the brake pedal when stationary and it activates!

Still having trouble finding any 'advanced' menu though. Pressing the reset button does not appear to have any effect (other than reset of course!)

I have a 2003 W211 and the two features I thought were not very useful when I bought the car (SBC and speed limiter) are actually now the features I use the most! Most of my driving is on the Motorway and driving from the hotel to work through a couple of tunnels with the speed cameras at each end. The SBC is surprisingly useful especially on an automatic (my first).
Hmmm, wonder if it's worth starting a new thread on toys/features of your car that get used the most?

I take it that you mean SBC stop and not just the SBC as this is a system for the brakes

Both SBC Stop and SBC Hold. I thought they were just part of the same system and didn't realise they were two different features until I read this thread.

At the risk of someone pointing out the obvious...

This thread educated me as to what SBC Hold is, but I'm still unclear what SBC Stop actually is? Anybody care to explain it simply without another WW starting! ;)

SBC Stop was the ability to stop the car in slow moving traffic without the use of the footbrake. As soon as we lift the accelerator the car gently brakes to a halt. Excellent option for those that are regularly stuck in slow moving traffic.

You do not have it. :D

I'll see ifI can find the exact wording

Welllll, gently-ish.......:D

Yer tis:

SBC Stop is only available in conjunction with automatic transmission*.
SBC Stop can relieve the strain on the driver when driving in traffic jams.

When the accelerator pedal is released, the vehicle is continuously braked until it comes to a complete stop.

Once the vehicle has come to a complete stop, it is kept stationary without the driver having to depress the brake pedal.

As soon as you accelerate to pull away, the brakes are released.

I think Mr E is its greatest fan.

We never found out why they took it away with no mention as to why

Yes we did :)

It was in the summer 2004 review. A number of standard features were removed from this excellent vehicle and this was just one of them.

Some folks try to suggest it was because of the US litigation mind-set but if the truth is to be accepted.....

The US never had our excellent SBC features. :) but never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Thank you John,, I must be getting old  I know in STAR on mine it says remove it

Sure am....

I'm gonna miss it when the new one arrives - gets used every day.
My wife is playing with a new E-class and it's nice to hear that the Hold feature is still there, hopefully SBC was the first step and we are now on the second rung.

I tried SBC hold on my 2005 E270 and I got a message that the 'SBC H function is unavailable - contact the user's manual'. I did everything said in the manual which is consistent with what other Benzers have suggested.
Is that an expected problem - what else should I do?
Anyone else experienced a similar situation - what was the solution?

Thansk
