SBC Hold Unavailabe

Hi All,

My S211 was parked up for a week at the airport whilst we were on holiday.

When I returned to the car, it started up all as normal but when I engaged Drive and release the parking brake, as I lifted my foot from the brake pedal the car DIDN'T begin rolling forward. I ended up having to push the accelerator before the car began to move.
And in doing so, I heard a shudder before the car started to move.

It felt as though the brake pads had stuck to the discs, and my pusing on the accelerator 'released' them. Brakes seem to be working fine, but I now no longer have use of the SBC hold function.

Display says 'SBC Hold Unavailable - RTFM' (or words to the effect).

I've read other thread stating it could be a control module, but wondered if my 'sticking brake pads' might mean something else?

Any ideas before I visit my indy?

Thanks,
shr.

This is my take.

The ATF (transmission fluid) has sunk to the bottom of the box so when you selected d it took a bit of time for the fluid to circulate. The shudder was maybe from the gearbox and not the brakes.

Did you park the car up "wet"?

The SBC hold problem is probably due to low battery voltage due to it being parked up. Does it work now?

Your ATF level maybe a tad low too.

I maybe wrong about it but I have had this before.

Charge up the battery and see whether the problem is still there.

Next time, disconnect the battery negative before you fly off. It known to drain off the battery within a week not being driven. I left it in garage for 2 months, the voltage dropped to 6.67 volts. I was lucky it was a nearly new battery and was able to charge it back to 12.5volts.

Hmm interesting. I would never have even thought along those lines.
Car wasn't wet when I parked up.

Airport to home was a good 1.5 hr drive but SBC Hold still not working so I can't imagine battery issue.

My indy has a dip stick so guess will have to ask them to check ATM level.

Drive home was a good 90 mins so pretty sure battery is ok (plus I didn't get the 'battery low - fancy features disabled' message.

Interesting about disconnecting battery. My S211 has power closing. If I disconnect the battery, would I be able to open the boot on return? Guess I'd have to open driver's door manually and then climb through to back seats and then into boot?

As long as you don't leave the blade in the boot or got a spare you are OK. Even though if you can managed to get into the booth through the ski thru seat, I am wondering how are you going to unlock the boot inside the boot?

Update:
My Indy has confirmed it's the Electronic Selector Module.

Can't believe the fault ONLY effects the SBC Hold function. You would have thought that other functions would also stop working.
TIPS states the fix is to replace the module!! (About 350 pounds for the part alone).

Anyone here know if the existing module can be repaired?

Oh dear.
Then I have a problem as I hate having a feature on my cars not working.

Had a quick look on WIS and don't think it's a difficult job. Only hard bit I guess would be getting underneath the car and uncoupling the mechanism from the selector rod. Which will probably mean I wont be able to do it myself.

I don't know of anyone that can repair them

try these guys electroversal tel no 01582 045465 if they cant repair it there is no charge ,so got notihng to loose

Update:
Need to order new control module.
My indy reckons simple job, can do it my self as doesn't need coding via star.
But wis says need to get under car and un-couple mechanism.

Anyone done this job and confirm if it can be done from within the car, or do you indeed need to get underneath?
