Hi all,

well trodden ground I know but trying to plan on how long I can keep my S211.

Its a 2006 with 126K and is in great nick. There is no record of the SBC pump having been changed so I can only presume its as fitted from new. There are no issues but mileage dictates that it will time out at some time not to distant. I've heard that it may cost around £1k at an indie to renew and that would be fine but much more may have me moving the car on before this occurs. My best case scenario is to keep the car as I really like it.
Can anyone with experience give me an idea of a replacement cost please?
Thanks in advance

Steve.

IIRC the pump is around £950 and labour shouldn’t be much more than £250-£300. So around £1300 max.

I’ve also heard you can get the pump refurbished by certain companies; I’m not sure I’d go down this route personally.

If you like the car just keep it!

Sbc i find is a great system and the brakes are phenomenal.

A brake Servo and Master on most other cars are similarly priced.

I'd keep using the car until such time you get the dreaded message.
Then contact JohnnySBC at the link below and have the pump fully refurbished and refitted by an indy.
(Bear in mind a "new" pump is just a refurbished one from Bosch)

I recall last time I checked the cost of having a pump reconditioned had come down.
Can't remember where though, let me check....

SBC was something I used to worry about, I've since figured I have many more things to worry about. ;)

edit: "Roger beat me to it"

Wasn't the changeover during 2006, not before?
Facelift model = no SBC?
A quick shufty under the bonnet will confirm;)
During. Mine's a late pre-facelift. Cheers

Changeover was 06-06 and yes from pre-facelift to facelift

Ah... must have been part of the last batch of pre-facelifts before MB fully switched over production.

I had mine done about 6 months ago at the local indy and came to around £1300 all in IIRC, my car had done just over 100k at the time

mine was about£1200 last year on my wifes SLR230

id rather pay the £375 to refurbish the pump if the unit from mercedes is just a refurbished bosch unit. £375 isn't a lot of cash to keep it running

anyone know what they do to refurbish them ,it could be next to nothing as in just reset the counter or do they change brushes in the motor and recharge or replaced the gas sphere

I've no idea, perhaps ask the company linked to in previous posts.
