Scotland raises the standard

Interesting that you are allowed to drink at all during working hours. Having said that, I was working next door to one of your larger establishments recently, and other than getting the tenders out for a wash, I'm sure they didn't move in two days. Perhaps the drivers were too p!ssed to take them out... A pint of 4% beer is about 2 units. The body processes a unit an hour. 6:00pm to 8:00pm is two hours, so using the information already supplied...2 units (approx 1 pint) will have been excreted, leaving 4 units (2 pints), which should see most men under the limit.

Units are calculated by measuring literage x strength...

That means a pint (0.57L) of 4% beer is actually 2.28 units ... Multiply to three pints and it is 6.84 units.

At 8pm you are running close to 5 units in your blood and are actually most likely going to fail a breath test...

I knew you'd get going.

The NHS site puts 1.5 pints of 4% beer at 3-4 units. Most "session beer" sold in pubs is 3.8%, so that then puts 1 pint at 2 units.

5 units is roughly 2 pints, according to your maths. Would that fail a test? I doubt it.

Obviously if you are a midget drinking Special Brew, you need to reconsider the values, but it's nothing like Pontoneer was suggesting.

WTF - my first snide comment from you... Thanks.

Mine was a factual statement of how you calculate units. Using approximations is how the comedy of people who have "just had a couple" end up with drink-drive convictions by accident.

Now, considering your snide ill manners, I'm wondering if you'd pass a drink drive test for your computer mouse right now...?

LOL.

My apologies for being a bit snide there. :)

For the logic, I will stand by the calculations.

Easy tiger...

If you think one pint doesn't matter go and try the simulator at Cranfield or Birmingham just 0.5 units are enough to affect your judgement and dramatically reduces your reaction speed

Zero limits don't work because of alcohol in food Sweden realised that and swapped back, 20mg is about right as a limit

But at the end of the day it's real easy if you are driving don't drink and if you are drinking don't drive, simples

Uniformed staff have different rules , but being non-uniformed and since we clock out at lunchtime , which is unpaid , lunchtime doesn't count as 'during working hours' :) As long as you don't come back sozzled , and are fit to drive a desk , it shouldn't be a problem .

Perhaps under the old , higher limit , but I certainly wouldn't drink three pints and drive within two hours - my own choice . However , I'd have one pint at lunchtime ( 12-ish ) and feel safe to drive home after 5 . I wouldn't go back into work after more than one pint as I'd feel that was pushing my luck re fitness for work once clocked back in - again , my own personal choice .

I don't drink Tiger, it's Cr@p. A 500ml bottle of Tangle Foot has just disappeared, though.

Tangle Brain I fear

I'm frankly amazed at the lax regulation of drinking during working hours. Technically lunchtime isn't paid anywhere, but as one is still required to work the afternoon, it governs what can be drunk at lunch.

Even with the rather wild maths used on this forum, 3 pints would clear the system in 4 hours enough to be well below the legal DD limit.
