Now, there are some tiny scratches on my Audio 20 (ho hum) screen that show in the wrong light.

Ordinarily this wouldn't bother me but... there is a product that peeps use on ipod screens to smooth out marks.

Will this wreck my display?

I strongly recommend GREYGATE PLASTIC POLISH for restoring scratched plastic surfaces. Safe and effective. Can be obtained on e**y for around a fiver.

The best thing to use is DURAGLIT yes the impregnated brass/silver cleaner it works great on all clear plastics. Hope this helps John........

I have a good experience with Displex Display Polish. It removed scratches from mobile phone, PSP (you know, son is 9, there is a lot of scratches every week...)

I used Meguiars Plastx on my Audio 20 with no ill effects.

Be very careful what you use on LCD panels (for that is what the COMAND display is) as they won't necessarily respond well to "Polish the scratched areas with heavy pressure for 2-3 minutes" (taken from the Displex Application Instructions).

Whatever product you settle on, make sure that the surface is scrupulously clean - especially around the bezel edges - before you start polishing as it's very easy to create new scratches if there's a dirt particle that gets twixt the diplay and polishing cloth.

Displex I found to my cost, a bit on the meh side for larger screens such as the Audio 20 :dk:

I think that for small screens like ipod etc it will be great, but unless you are prepared to treat the whole surface (an utter task for a large screen) you will see distortions in the surface when sunlight hits the display....

Under no circumstances would I use Displex (or anything other than a moist cloth) on an LCD display.... most anything will take off the anti-reflective coating.

The Audio20 screen on the pre MY2009 cars has a plastic screen and isnt LCD fortunately.

Ahh but the display cover is the same acrylic material... and will respond to Displex if you fancy an hour or more of rubbing to even out the finish on the display to avoid distortions.

Apologies, my bad... I realised once I looked back that it was a pre MY09 car

Comand display in E500 - Anti Glare finish

I just bought a previously owned 2006 E500. Fantastic car, except it looks like someone has used a chemical or abrasive cleaner on the Comand display, partially removing the anti-glare finish in some areas but not all. My MB dealer tells me the only fix they know is a full replacement of the Comand system. Any experience of restoring or completely removing the anti-glare finish on the display so it doesn’t look scratched?

Erm.... Try one of the protective films - armr200 is anti glare (I have it on my blackberry). I would expect the Kenwood DNX7200 sized piece should be big enough but may want to contact them to see.

try here

A friend at work had the same problem with his 55 plate w211 command, he really doesn't take too much care of his car and used toothpaste on the screen and it came up an absoloute treat......i think the anti-glare has been completely removed but other than a slight shade lighter than my screen you cant tell the difference. It really did look a mess before hand.
