seatback locking in 124 coupe

Hi all
The seatbacks (both) in my e320 coupe dont lock into place it seems, have tried them with the car in drive handbrake off etc.

The engine runs like a dream, IIRC the system to lock them is vacuum, however I would have expected the car to run poorly if it was vacuum related. No other faults present to my knowledge.

Any ideas?

Have you tried with the doors closed? They only lock when the door is closed.

Also check all the pipe connections under the seat, sometimes if the seat has been moved fully forward, or backward it can pull off the connections.
