See if your car is insured

If the result is red ,it doesnt mean that the car isnt insured--it means its not on database
I transfered my insurance from one car to another last week and it took 2 days to show on database
My neighbours car that is insured also does not show up

sadly, that will be too late for the lynch mob - they will have already reported you and probably hired a crusher :)

That's very true, you don't want to be stopped by police and not showing on their database, it gets messy (I know, from one of my trips with traffic plod in Cambs) for the driver/owner...

A good one!:)

I did a check on my partners car and it came up negative! It turned out that her insurance company had wrong registration details down on their database even though we had a valid and correct reg certificate.
After a protracted premium rate call they promised to correct their database.Could have been a stress day if she had been checked ( particularly by a possible jobsworth Parking Warden!)

Interesting (but pedantic) point to note...

I wonder if they do keep any records of where the queries originate from, as it clearly says it's an offence to look up any vehicle other than ones that you currently own.

I (just) managed not to check out a few others I am interested in...

All that said, thanks for repeating the link - I was aware it existed but not where, have just checked my V6 converted Mk2 Astra and discovered it was not insured. A quick call to the broker and they have confirmed that they made an error in reporting the registration number to the insurer. Hopefully all sorted now. :)

So thanks for saving me from some unneccessary police attention and no doubt a lot of hassle.

Ian.

Not all insurance companies provide their data to the MIB, though all do benefit from the resulting reduction in uninsured cars on the roads...

It saved my bacon, when I put the number in it came up as not insured, then I realized that I forgot to tell the insurance that there was a number change

As i have trade insurance all of my cars come back as uninsured... i was last stopped about 2 years ago.

I spoke to my insurance broker today and im supposed to be getting some software from my Insurer that will allow me to add any cars i have to the national database. Never really been motivated to as i never get stopped and if i do its just a matter of explaining.

Just looked up all my previous cars on both links. My first car (trusty H reg metro) shows as uninsured and untaxed as does my 1st bank car !!

Does that mean they have been written off??? Anyone got a system that will hunt down the last owner and give them a kicking for crashing my poor little metro!!! (Last owned it about 12 years ago, but still have a soft spot for it you may have gathered!!!)

Checked it again today and it's included in the database now. :)

Agreed that the trade rules are changing, but without trade insurance I'm in a different boat, especially as I don't carry round my insurance details.

Explain your madness? (300)

Ha, ha. Do you mean because it's timed out. Just proceed and go back to the home page.

Go to Vehicle enquiry from THIS page and it will tell you if a car is taxed or not..

arrrrrrrrrgh! all this to see if my cars are taxed? haha! i can check that by looking through my windscreens. only joking! now we can check if those crafty 4x4 users pay their taxes :bannana:

lol... guess what.,.

my mums just been stopped by the police for alledgedly not having insurance!!

of course... we are all on a trade policy... see my previous post...

im waiting for some software that will allow me to put my stock onto the national database..

You might find that if your car reg isnt on the database then you will not be able to retax your car online as the system checks for insurance from this database

This caught my partner out on the same day as I checked that she wasnt on the database and reported it to the insurance company who said that they would update their records within 2 days. Unfortunately the DVLA only update theirs once a month!!

WARNING

***** is NOT on the Motor Insurance Database today

My car is on a trade policy does not show up
