Ok here goes on explaning.......I have Sky HD in the living room, there is also a TV point for aeriel behind the TV in a socket on the wall. In the bedroom there is also a socket on the wall for TV aeriel. Both pick up Free view signal etc. My question is....If i enable the RF out on the Sky HD box and plug the aeriel lead into the socket on the wall will it a. send the Sky signal back towards the roof aeriel and b. will the TV in the other room pick the signal up along with the other normal channels??? Cheers.....

Yep.

Best idea is to identify what channels Freeview uses and make sure the Sky box uses a different one (is this possible?), or you could get interference. Unlikely though, most RF outputs avoid the common channels.

You should look into RF Blasters if you want to change channel from upstairs though.

It should work in principle as long as the 2 sockets within the wall are connected. I ran an extension cable from one room to another. Try plugging a cable in and see if it works...

I basically connected it up and then scanned for channels via the freeview built into the TV in the bedroom but it didnt pick up anything i could see that looked like the Sky from the other room. Would the built in freeview pick it up and name it as Unknown channel or something or will it not be in the freeview bit and only be in the analogue channel section by flicking through the channels?? Cheers....Cant think how to test it out......

It will be an analogue channel.

.

How are the socket behind the Sky (spit) box and the socket in the bedroom connected together?

If they are on separate outputs of an aerial disrtibution amplifier then your idea will not work. If they are on the outputs of a passive splitter then it should work but as Meldrew2 points out, it will be an analogue signal.

Hmmm, could be either then i guess......Its a purpose built building with various apartments etc. So it could be that they are on seperate outputs i guess.....Unless there is maybe one output per apartment....

They are independantly fed as you can pick up freeview from each output so your idea wont work. You will have to run a cable to the other tv, or you can use a wireless video sender with rf.

Most likely they are independantly fed so your idea wont work. You will have to run a coaxial cable to the other tv, or you can use a wireless video sender with rf.

Yes i guess it wont work then.....Damn! Dont want to run a cable as too messy, i guess a sender unit is only way but when i used one before the quality was so rubbish that i threw it into the bin!!

Wireless video senders can work fine, depends on how many walls the signal needs to travel through. You can get flat coaxial cable which can easily be laid under carpet. Other option is to run a hdmi lead or cat5 cable and use hdmi baluns.

I'd give it a test - having Freeview on both sockets is no indicator of anything.

If they are connected, even through a signal amp, it may work (I distributed cable TV through my last house this way, even though the signal went into an output on the dist amp).

I will try it out first then i think and see how it goes, failing that i may get some flat cable and run under the carpet as that may be the easiest way.....:thumb:

I use a Slingbox and then most rooms in the house have a PC.

I gave up on the freeview, and put the Sky feed into lounge and bedroom by connecting the two coax cables together in the loft, then sending the signal up from the lounge via the RF out connection on the sky box - I no longer have terrestrial signal but with the magic eye accessory I can control the sky box from bedroom as well as lounge.

If you connect the aerial to the antenna input on the sky box the freeview signal will be passed through to the bedfroom via the rf2 output.

If you do this (with an aerial connected) you are effectively shorting out the 12 volt supply carried by the RF2 output and will damage your SKY box. RF2 should only ever be connected to amps, TVs or magic eye links. If the two sockets are connected to individual dis amp outputs you won't do any harm but it won't work. Best get a good quality wireless sender from Maplins. Some even transmit remote signals and multiple channels for DVDs and VCRs as well as TV RF.

you're best wiring up the box using a new wire direct from the coax output on the sky box. we have this and you get a little box that sits upstairs so you can change channels using a remote that changes the channel on the main box. B&Q sell it.

this is what i'm talking about: (i have a different brand but same thing)

As above. you need a sky distribution amp.
Theyre about £35.

Basically I have an aeriel socket behind my telly that used to go to teh aierel in the attic. This also had a cable going to another telly.

You simply take the aeriel out and plug in the amp. this then feeds the other tellys and allows you to control sky with a magic eye.

This is the type.

Sorry to hijack thread.

I wonder if this is what I need?

I bought a new build that has a distribution plate that feeds 2 other room with aeriel connections but when I used a magic eye it didnt work correctly. There was something on the packaging about shielded or one way cabling or something like that? Sorry to be vague!

Does that sound familiar to anyone?

I have a wireless sender but would rather have a working magic eye.
