Can someone reccomend a good source for all the belts I need for my SL55 AMG?

Thanks in advance

Z

I purchased genuine Mercedes belts from Inchcape online last year for my E55 Kompressor.

A1139970292 poly V belt £39.31

A1139970192 Supercharger belt £16.09.
However this belt is currently showing on the website at £40.75 so I would query that price. Other European websites sell it for around 20 Euro.

Mercedes-Benz Parts, Inchcape

I would have thought you'd be straight round to the nearest MB dealer for genuine parts for this particular item.

help

Please get an Original Mercedes Benz serpentine belts .Your engine will run as it should with less chances of it breaking.

Grumpy: that's the first place I tried. But choices are limited.
Abeckets: Main dealers are rip off merchants and don't ever believe you are getting quality goods all of the time. Consumables like oils/filters/belts are always cheaper and often better - elsewhere.
Grober: thanks for this, I've bookmarked the link to help with the job - appreciated.
Vilus - It seems Inchcape don't do SL55's???? Or so the search engine tells me?

So - back to the drawing board it seems.........

Vilus has given you the MB part numbers

Inchcape are MB

If you don't want to use the dealer and can wait a few days, try this place.

The dealers are very reasonable for service items and are even often cheaper than elsewhere.

Ignore that, very little of their parts database is actually listed by model. Do a search on the part number instead.

Little me put a non OE belt on my 606 engine and because the ribs were a different size (marginal but enough) to the pulleys it shredded rubber everywhere which melted onto the idler pulley and caused the belt to jump about like a mad thing.

You go right ahead and fit aftermarket junk and save yourself a couple of quid.

Druk: where, exactly do you think the main dealers get their spares from then? Because MB don't make belts do they? One simply targets the OE source and gets it from them - bypassing the leeches called MAIN DEALERS.

Howard: Vilus gave me a part number for a pre 1994 E55??

This is the conversation from Inchcape:

Me: Spares dept please.
Them: How can I help.
Me: I'm after a serpentine belt for an SL55 AMG please.
Them: should be there, sir, on the web site.
Me: Your search engine doesn't flag up the SL55.
Them: Really? Are you sure. Let me take a look: Yes you are right...only the SL350 and SL600. Interesting.
Me: You weren't aware of that?
Them: No!
Me: Do you have one.
Them: No - but another dealer is showing they may have one for £39.
Me: Thanks.

AMGeed: Excellent (thanks again). I spotted this eventually - during my ongoing search (wasn't easy though). So what do we have here then? A Gates product (which supplies MB) for half the price....well I never.
Job done.

Problem with that is one can't be 100% certain the product is of the same specification or quality.

FYI the part numbers I posted were from the Invoice issued by Inchcape Oxford, and the parts were fitted to my 2003 E55 Kompressor engine. The same engine fitted to all 55 Kompressor models.

The Inchcape website is not the best, but the parts dept. were really helpful. Perhaps if you try calling them on 01865 848682, explain you wish to order online and would like to confirm the correct part number. Give them your reg number or VIN and get them to confirm the part numbers. Then type in the part number to the website and order. Ignore the website description, as the part number is accurate to your model.

I have purchased several times from Inchcape online and found them to be priced better than my local MB dealer in Kent.

PS. The items supplied with the MB logo stamped on them were manufactured by Continental.

Crikey , got an attitude haven't you ?

Can't believe you are going to all this trouble over £40's worth of belt. How much do you value your time at ?

I thought I'd left behind the cynical comments about a genuine question. Look at my first request then look at some of the responses - you couldnt make some of them up.
What I regard as 'normal' is what AMGeed came up with - not things like "Lets try google shall we"....

What I stated about Inchcape was accurate: their web site is (a) out of date and (b) what is there is inaccurate and (c ) they don't even check their own web site. When I spoke to him...it didn't seem to bother him at all? Oh and (d) twice the price of the same item from the OM's.
Apart from those with warranties outstanding - who in their right mind visits a main dealer?????

Let's reset the clock eh and talk to each other as we would if we were chatting face to face? Thats all I asked to start with...................

"Who would visit the main dealer?" .... Me!

Why? 'Cos you need to know what you're trying to better price wise. On service items MB are very competitive. Inchcape are consistently below MB main dealer prices and they deliver UK wide.

FWIW Contitech and most (all?) of the other decent manufacturers use the belts specification as the part number so using my w124 as an example (length is in owners handbook too)...

There are several different MB part numbers for the same spec belt and all of 'em appear to be £43.68 from MB or £39.31 (+ delivery) through Inchcape

The Conti part number is 6PK2445 which translates to 6 rib poly vee, K section with a length of 2445mm

The first google hit from a company i recognised (misterauto) sells them for £20.42 with a SRP of £27.98
Eurocrapparts are a bit cheaper but neither of the two lengths of Contitech on their site are correct for mine
I suspect my local belts and bearings specialist could better any of the usual motor factor prices. Definately could better the service from eurocrap or the local stealer- a pair of matched drive belts (they're doubled up and make a right racket if they 'fight' each other due to length tolerances) for an ancient Colchester lathe? Not a problem i'll just measure a bunch of them to eliminate manufacturing tolerances. Bought an old Pollard drill press which came without a belt, dump the motor complete with pulley on his counter with a piece of string to represent belt length and still get service with a smile

If you don't want to use the dealer and can wait a few days, try this place.

This belt is for those of us that have the smaller supercharger pulley. The belt is shorter to compensate for the reduced diameter of the pulley. I think most of us that have had the Eurocharged supercharger pulley are using this Gates best and to my knowledge without any problems.
