Guys,

Does anyone else get a static shock when you touch the frame of the door as you exit your car?

I get this a lot with my 211 but not on my 202 and nor have I experienced it with any car previous.

(I've posted here because I'm assuming it something to do with a charge built up on my seat?)

Anyone experience this with their cars?

Thanks for any help.
shr.

yes, but hasnt happened in a long time now, i must be de charged or somthing?!

I think it depends on the clothing you wear and the fabrics they contain.

Stop wearing the shell suit mate :D

and the wig:D:D

Seriously though; it's a static (generated as a potential difference raise caused by 2 dissimilar materials rubbing together) discharge.

Have u got seat covers? are u favouring some sort of clothing that may be responsible?
Some people who are suffering from static shocks fit static disappators under the car (rubber strip with an earthing wire inside) which maintains the car to the same potential as the ground...

Or else ( I have in the past) touch the car or another object on getting out with the flat of the hand to dissipate the charge...

LOL
No seat covers or shell suits here.

Odd as both of my cars have leather seats, but I only get this problem with the 211.

Scotch guard/ Suchlike on the seats perhaps?

Other than that... Out of ideas I'm afraid!

For me it was always Nylon floor mats in Japanese cars and rubber soled shoes. It was worst in high and dry climates.

Was thinking I might need to apply something to the seats to help.

Will have a look around.

I'm afraid not, you are just getting old. I remember reading about this years ago (in relation to forecourt fires) and apparently as you get older you tend to haul yourself out of the car with the A pillar or a handle above the door and thereby the charge is dispersed as soon as your foot touches the floor, when we were younger we used to leap out and get zapped when we touch the door to close it!! Personally I think that is a load of old tosh!

So my 202 is ageing me before my time but my 211 is keeping me young at heart?

Maybe I could use this argument to persuade mrs. shr that I need to upgrade to a W221.
:-)

I had the same problem on my S-class Mercedes when I first got it then after a while the shocks stopped.

i get it all the time, i just thought it was my electric personality.

no?? ok i'll get my coat

I also suffer this in my 211 and at random. Used to be you hung a metalised rubber strap from the rear to supposedly 'earth' the car but I don't know if that worked or not. Possibly the advent of nylon carpets is the culprit.

It could be the internal mats. It is unlikely to be leather, but as you move your feet around you could build up a charge especially if you have gone for the luxury interior carpets:D

Static

Hi,Would all the gadgets we own and touch add to the effect? I find at certian times of the year I zap things more.
Thanks for your time:thumb:.

Euge.
