ml 270 brabus d4,
hi all. i have the 270 cdi ml 2001. got 20 " brabus rims and am changing the front shocks . ( old ones clonking ) what is a good upgrade ? have seen the bilstein b5 shocks but are £165 each !! any cheaper ones that are good ? also just going to change my discs and pads all round. am thinking of going for crossed drilled and grooved ones. i have 345mm on the fronts and 285 mm on the rears. i do brake hard as i have the d4 brabus chip. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it's the shocks ? Could be the ball joints ?

have took off the splash guard and can pull the shock back and forward "slightly" and i get a little clonk noise. also shows signs of scoring from the top cover over the bottom part. all rubber bushes and seals look and seem ok. where is this located ? bottom of wishbone ?

Bilsteins would generally be cheaper than OEM. £165/EA is not that bad of a deal. That said, have a look at ebay.de for Bilstein shocks. Back in the day I bought a set of Bilsteins for my old ML (all 4 corners) from Germany for about 1/2 of OEM price. Installing them was a breeze and saved a few quid too.

I have listed a rear pair for sale on ebay now cheap - see if you're interested in getting those changed too. I put about 1K miles on them back in 2008. Since then they were on the shelf.

Hey, and post pics of your ML too!

have looked at those on ebay. so whats the deals as you have some other bits for sale ? do you brake them ? the rears seem to be ok but if cheap enough i would do it ??

just looked on ebay.de , not much saving. so are the bilstein the nuts ? am also looking out for the rear brabus bumper and front one with the smaller bullbar ??

These are parts off my older and current ML that I have accumulated over the time. Decluttering as I have literally run out of space! The rear shocks are in top working order and are quite cheap considering the price is for a pair of them.

Bilsteins are absolutely OK, slightly stiffer than OEM which is considered a good thing as you get lesser body roll. BRABUS bits are quite hard to source these days, not impossible but a bit hard to find!
