Hi guys, My daily RangeRover P38 decided to self destruct and burst into flames, I am hoping for about 4k from the insurance. I really fancy an E class W210 saloon as these are a lot of car for little money......So should i buy V6 model or a straight 6?,are there any faults that i should look out for?,what would an E320 be like on fuel compared to an E280?. I have a 20 foot tourer that i'd be towing so......what do they tow like??????.
come on guys...tell me what you think.

that about sums it up, rust is the big issue with these cars, the Diesel is the best option and I think the 320 is better on fuel than the smaller 300, but that could be down to the different driving style of my neighbour and myself:o

so.......a diesel E320 is as quick as a petrol.....and a lot more economical, sounds like i'll be looking for a diesel.
can these do big mileage without spending thousands on repairs?

I wouldn't class the W210 as budget motoring, but from all I've heard the E320 diesel is a very reliable engine.

If you're worried about cost what about these alternative; Honda Accord, VW Passat, Ford Mondeo

no i'm not worried at all about economy, just looking on autotrader and it seems that diesels in my price range have mega mileages, but petrol mileages are a lot lower........
The diesel rangerover i had was'nt that economical, if i drove it like an undertaker i'd get 29mpg on a run, but most of the time on short journeys it was only doing 17 or 18 mpg......also an E320 Avantgarde petrol is over a hundred quid a year cheaper than a rangerover to insure.

Don't worry about high miliage. I have loads on my books with 150+

IIRC Doesn't the 320 CDI hold some sort of world record for continuous running?

You won't be disappointed in a 320 CDI if you get a good one.

Mine now out-runs my Omega 3.0 V6 24V after new injectors...

The engine itself would be the last thing to worry about.

I've had 47mpg on a run and that was in the winter months and I know it is capable of higher mpg than that - even in the winter. 34-36mpg is about right for everyday useage.

BIG TIP: Read up on the 320CDI (aka W210) on this forum BEFORE you buy and you'll save a fortune - I wish I had joined the forum before I bought mine...

Did see the RUST word ?

Would you be disappointed if your front suspension collapsed because the spring housing had come away from the inner wing because of rust ????

You do need to know that RUST can be a significant problem on a significant number of these cars.

Wasn't there a valeo rad problem with water getting into the auto box?

The last 162 miles I have done is recorded as 40.6 MPG.

Mine's a 320Cdi Estate and I tow an Avondale 640 twin axle without a problem, well the only problem is I only get about 23mpg. My normal average is about 37mpg. ;)
It's done 187k miles and one of the technicians from the local MB dealer recently commented that it ran like a car with a lot less miles. It's aways been serviced (MB then Indie) when it's needed to, before I had it (bills to show). Since I purchased it in October 08,and 15000 miles, I have done an intermidiate oil/filter change and recently a full B service with all filters replaced. the only other jobs I have had to do is the front ARB bushes and drop links (cheap £ from MB) and front brake pads; also 4 injector seals replaced by my local MB indie.
Rust can be an issue, but I have tackled the front arches (only gone on the inner lip) and rear tailgate lock area myself. The rear arches need doing but will ask the bodyshop what they would charge when it goes in on Monday for a new rear bumper after I got rear ended last week.

The 210 is agreat car , they have loads of interior room and are very comfortable , im after doing a 100 mile round trip in around 1 1/2 hours and don't feel tired . Mine is the 200 kompressor . Its a good car with enough power ( 163 bhp ) although i would rather a 320CDI but there too expensive to run over here . The 2 litre petrol manages 28 mpg on daily driving . Hope this helps ,
