Should I swap, upgrade, or stick?

Right, I know I've not had my S124 E200 for very long but I'm really liking it... However, I know of an S124 E280 that will be coming available soon, and I'm tempted by the step up in power and (hopefully) refinement from the 6-cylinder engine, so I'm thinking about selling the E200 to buy the E280.

By switching from an M111.940 to an M104.94x, am I going to regret t down the line with reliability issues? The guy I'd be buying off is a petrolhead who knows his stuff and has had other W124s, so may well have replaced the biodegradable wiring already... Is there anything else I might have to worry about?

Alternatively, as I'm looking to get a bit more pulling power as my Merc's meant for touring and towing duties, would there be any chance of fitting just the Kompressor (and any essential ancillaries) from a later M111.957 engine, or would that require a complete heart transplant? If I had to look at a full engine swap, I'd probably stick to a car change, or go the whole hog and begin scouring adverts for salvage cars with undamaged M119s :D

You will really enjoy the extra torque and power as well as refinement. The two real issues to check are loom and head gasket, apart from that little difference in reliability.

Far easier and a much more desirable car than seeking to fit a Kompressor...

would be nice if the 280 is matched to a 5 speed box. that 5th gear is useful when on a run.

I know it has Cruise Control, would that be an indicator of if it might have the 5-speed auto box? I'll make further enquiries.
