As always... this is for my sister and when i went to help her with a flat tyre the other day, i noticed that the fronts were 225 45 17 and the rears had 245 40 17 on them.

This seems most odd to me, do you think a previous owner has been a cheapskate and cut corners?

Any help is most appreciated as i'd like to get this sorted for here ASAP, t
thanks in advance as always.

The car is a W reg, clk 320 with AMG alloys.

That is the correct size tyres for this car with AMG wheels.

The wheels should be 1" wider at the rear - hence the different width tyres. The 5% difference in profile accounts for this to keep the rolling radius in check front-rear :)

As Will said ^,that`s the correct tyres for a staggered alloy wheels

Thank you for the replies gents.

Next questions.... would you fit ENDURO's / NEXEN's to it?

(that's what it has/had!):eek::eek::eek:

and the spare... some funky race looking 195!!!

What a mission!

ps... This is the car in question.

well, i am 100 miles away from her and the car.

I think that she has other expenses to deal with at the moment, so i will have to forward this thread link to her and let her get something done locally (she is in Harrow) and let her judge what is best for her.

Really appreciate the replies and help on the thread so far, thank you again.

I ditched a set of cheapo tyres that were on my AMG when I bought it - I assume they were fitted by a trader upon retailing the car as they were almost new. Best money I have spent on it - set of Michelin Pilots.

Btw, your spare wheel will be a smaller steel on a regular CLK, it's only the AMG models that come with a 17" spacesaver to accomodate the larger brakes.

If it were me, i know what i'd have on it... what you have. four matching tyres (matching to each axle that is as they are staggered) with matching tread levels. But, each to their own.

Yes, defo not a space saver as was a full 195 profile. It's some (quite ugly) alloy looking thing, in gloss black. The car is obviously a stock CLK that at some point has had some AMG alloys fitted and some really shoddy reject tyres, all 4 looked like they were different makes from each other too.

The puncture was a full rear blow out. Looked like the tyre wanted to come off the wheel with a total breakdown of the sidewall.

At first, i fitted the spare 195 on the rear for her, but then told her to stop while i put that thin'ish wheel on the front and the nicked a wider one off the front so that the drive wheels are at least similar. Good thing too as she said at first it felt quite wobbly (obviously it would be as you have a 245 one one drive wheel and a 195 on the other!)

So one pucture and three wheel changes later, she was off home and said it felt better straight away. Just need to get them sorted now so she can take that horrible spare off.

Try Syron Race 1 tyres if cost is an issue, they may not be a big brand name but they definitely perform well..... One of the guys on the Vec Forum was doing a long term test and even used them in the wet at Thunder Road on his VXR and was more than confident in them.

Plus at £100 delivered and mobile fitted for the rear tyre they're not badly priced either!

Both are sh1t but the nexens are less sh1t. Buy them or stretch to Falkens if poss.

That is putting it mildly! The guy I buy my tyres from and who is also a friend said, and i quote: "i would not wipe my **** on of those, they are that bad"

My CLK currently running on Nankang NS2 and no problems equally as good as the Falkens they replaced, only put them on as I had good experiences on the Scooby with them, so if cost is an issue this could be an option also we have had a few cllub members in our place using Lassa (bridgestone made in Turkey) who report very good results with them. :thumb:

Got NS2's on our A190 , great tyres for the money.

Falken 452's on the 430 CLK.

I think so too, never had a problem with them, worst tyres I ever had were Dunlop SP Sport OK in the dry but 2 spots of rain and they were lethal

I bought the NS2's on the back of what you told me !

£35 a corner ! Happy days !

There's a chap here in Leicester that sells part worns, all guaranteed and tested. Said he's got a pair of michelins with 4mm tread on them (that came off a CLK), 60 quid the pair fitted and balanced.

Shame she's in Harrow!
