Simple if you know!

Probably not. Older lesser graphics setups can't run the Vista aero interface. Modern integrated ones can.

A separate graphics card for office type apps usually just means more power consumption, more heat, more cost, possibly more noise, and a possibly larger system physical form factor, and something else to go wrong.

Right the Card is up and running, and unless it is just me thinking positively the picture quality is much better.
It did come up with an aero interface problem, but I seem to have overcome that by fiddling in the catalyst control centre.
The question is, what is the Aero interface and how can I tell if it is disabled?
Thanks
Max

Aero on Vista is the glassy look to the windows. Without Aero, none of it is see through.

There is no difference to the look of it, so either I didnt have it in the first place or it is still working!
Is this with or without?

Hit Windows key and hold down and then press tab. If you have Aero you get a 3D array of your windows to allow you to switch windows - like Alt-Tab but glitzier.

There is also an icon in the left bottom corner that lets me do it, so the answer is yes and everything is working well!
Putting this in has changed the computers performance score from 3.0 to 5.9 so a vast improvement overall:bannana:

You just made me flip my cynic cap back on.

Sticking in a graphics card only benefits you if your apps use (or actually need) it's capability.

And enabling Aero may actually slow things down a bit (it doesn't just use the enhanced graphics card but loads the CPU and memory as well).

So the performance score is not just potentially meaningless but potentially misleading depending on configuration and what you actually use your system for.

(Why can't it all be simpler )

I am always cynical about these things, but sice the install everything is running faster, whther that has anything to do with the PC being unclogged by not using the integrated graphics card I dont know:dk:
It certainly seesm to have made my pictures clearer and the TV more defined, but again that may be just wishful thinking on my part.:o
