SL 129 dash key slot (not ignition)?

noob question on my new (to me) sl 320 there is a second
key slot which i took to simply lock the dash centre cubbyhole/glovebox
however when i turn the key in it i hear motor noises from behind me
as if its moving the hood motors about?

as i don't have an owners manual can some one explain
what's happening

I believe the noise your hearing is the PSE(central locking) pump buzzing although I could be wrong. Is it the same noise you can hear when you lock and unlock the car?

Welcome to the forum

The noise you hear is for electronic locks which lock the centre console slidy section and also the door cubby's - this is used when the hood is down to secure the car contents to some extent

AH! all becomes clear. yes the noises did resemble the central locking
actuating but the door buttons did not move.
it did lock the glove box i never thought to try the other cubbys
how clever.
