SL Hoist

Or surely it wouldn't cost a lot to fabricate an A frame from box section and attach this or something similar to it.

Yeah, my thoughts were to buy a 'normal' hoist and mount it onto a swing arm attached to the side of his house or garage.

Great minds think alike, and I was just thinking that too.

Mine was made up with the steel cables used on farms and boats,,the farm shops keep all of the fittings too

*laughing* Oh, how I recall the days of parking on yellow lines, having called my flatmate first to make sure he was there (wife REFUSED to help!) and have him run up and either begin the Mercedes Benz R129 Roof Operation Magical Witchcraft Show and take it off or, more often than not when sans roof, run down the narrow slippy steps to our sub-ground hovel, carefully but quickly remove the roof from the lounge room amidst a torrent of abuse that it is a lounge room and not a place for car parts (despite our protests that it was an object d'art), crabwalk upstairs and then try and sweettalk the vulture parking officer who would appear and try to book the car!

The joys of London living!

That Mercedes hoist looks amazing though!

how heigh does you garage have to be to fit an normal r129 hoist to the ceiling? i reckon my garage ceiling is about 2.30 heigh but it has a false ceiling so could cut a hole in the plasterboard to allow to go up a bit if needed.

tfrom www.toplift.se they are £215 with bag, found same one on ebay in USA for half the price but probably without bag and have to factor in the additional shipping charges. narrowly missed out on one earlier last week and it went for £75, i could kick myself!!

The hoist only has to lift it 6" clear of the car if its reversed in,,as the roof cross wires fits close to the car roof a little over the garage door height should do.

Looking in the link 12" clear of the car roof should be OK

thanks!

I always reverse in, Iam too scared I won't be able to reverse it out of the garage with about 1" (total) between the side of the garage doors and the wing mirrors :)

I have about the same clearance but find it easier to go in forwards and reverse out!

Having finally got a garage I also intended fit a hoist for the hardtop, but eventually decided it just wasn't justified. It only takes me & Mrs BTB a couple of mins. to take off or put on, and I already have a padded bag and stand (on castors) for safe storage.

And very nice too Bill,, you need some draught excluder along the top of the doors.

Your car does look nice in the picture, I can understand why you go in forward as you can open the door,, I have to reverse in to get it close enough over to the nearside in order to get out

It needs new doors really, but I convice myself that the extra ventilation is beneficial :D

You're right about getting out, I would just about be OK on the other side but it would be a squeeze. Mrs BTB always gets out before I put it in the garage (well actually she opens the garage door for me too :o).

I think Mrs BTB needs to have a chat with Mrs Boeken :D although there seem to be plenty of neighbors wanting to help out with the hardtop lifting job!

try putting in a pulley system onto the garage roof ... my friend did this for a mx5 hardtop ... a homemade 3 point sling onto a single cord up onto a pulley mounted onto the ceiling of his garage... just a thought!!!!!
