Can anyone send me a link or video or stepped instructions?? I just cannot find any & I've started to remove mine & it's becoming quite tedious; in other words, I'm stuck!!

There is a guide somewhere, search for bottom ball joint repair on your model and you will find it, it's doable with having to do "rodeo"to bleed the system.

That is for the front strut, the rear one is totally different!! Every step taken on the rear leads to another obstacle, so I'd like to have more information...basically stuck on removing the lower arm to be able to clear the strut!?

I don't really understand why there are quite a few front strut removals online but no rear ones shown on the SL!?

Sorry completely missed the fact it said rear, outer bolt on the lower arm houses a rose joint, inner is just a normal bush but the bolts can sieze in the bush meaning it needs cutting off and the bush replacing.

Yes, that's what I was thinking but I'm trying to avoid the bush as I don't have the tools to replace it! It is now out half the way but getting difficult to move now with the thread going through the bush.....had to lower the exhaust too to get tool in.

Will try some more lubricant & start attacking the arm at the rose joint....

I feel your pain, there used to be two amazing step by step videos on youtube on how to remove both the front and rear struts on a R230 SL500. These have now been removed by the company as they do not offer replacement struts for the R230 anymore. The company is question is 'Strut Masters'. I even emailed them myself to try and get hold of the installation videos but they would not release them. I think your best option would be to watch the strut removal from a CL500 as this maybe very similar to the SL

If that doesn't help maybe try viewing some of their other mercedes installs

Thanks RAJ55, that actually did help :thumb:

I was trying to remove the lower arm whilst in the video, they show the lower arm being pivoted down on the inner bush without removing the arm. At that point, I was afraid to pull the hub assembly because of the drive shaft. But, I did as shown in the video. Now, the Strut is clear for removal.

I'm just screwed with the inner bush bolt half way not budging in any direction + worn splines, so tools can't be used :fail

Been trying to hammer it out while spraying Wurth Rost Off Blue Ice...still not successful :wallbash:

Next step; might have to weld a nut to it & go from there, hopefully just replace the bolt & not the bush.....wish me luck!

If I disconnect both batteries, will there be any problems when I weld a nut to the Bush bolt??
