Hi guys,

I just wanted to pick the collected MB brains if I may regarding a problem with my other half's SL350.

We picked the car up three weeks ago and stupidly I didn't test the air-conditioning. Tried it when we got home and assumed it needed a re-gas and went to do that this morning. Annoyingly there's a problem, the place suspected a compressor but couldn't be definitive.

Anyway, I know the garage we bought it from are responsible and they've said to bring it in next Friday tone looked at. Fingers crossed they diagnose the problem and offer to sort it.

I just wanted to ask about what components are likely to be the cause and if anyone knows rough costs? I just want to be as clued up as possible regarding potential issues

Thanks in advance for any info. :thumb:

As yours is the facelift i'm not sure if the AC button works the same as mine (2004) but i kept getting the red 'AC Off' light on mine and couldn't turn it off to put the AC on. For me it was just a case of clearing the fault codes and it started working again. What i've been told is that if the car detects a fault it logs it and shuts down the AC and then has to be reset via computer. Sorry i couldn't be more help, hope you get it sorted soon.

Regards
Raj

Thanks Raj that's actually really helpful, coincidentally that's exactly what I've been reading online as well.

Apparently there is a way to do a reset with some button configuration but also read that it needs plugging in and codes reset as you say.

I've just text my mobile mechanic to see if it's something he can do. :)

Well it looks like we're getting somewhere. Chap came and read the fault codes on the car and could see something AC related.

I didn't realise he did AC re-gassing but turns out he had the kit in the van. He tried filling the system and with the help of some dye and UV you can see the leak.

The system worked perfectly when it had some gas in it so at least it appears to just be this leak.

So off to the garage we go next week, at least with a view of what the problem is and a request for them to fix it. Question is, is it worth getting them to replace the part or weld it up?
