Just bought a new SL350 and am having trouble with the boot lock.

If you use the remote or the inside switch to open the boot, it lifts about half an inch but is still locked when you try to lift it by hand so you have to unlock it again with the remote. It doesn't always happen but enough to be annoying. It's been in to the dealer twice and last time had a new lock fitted but the problem still persists. Anybody else had this? If so how was it resolved?

long time lurker. Just wanted to respond quickly.

This is developing into a known problem on these cars. They tried to fix mine 5 times but couldn't (car developed a total of ten faults and was eventually rejected, but that is a different story).

Mercedes Benz of Beaconsfield are aware and are working on a fix with MB UK but none is available right now. They've heard about four cars with this issues so far. If you take your car in to be looked at by your dealer mention that this is now a known issues and that they should contact Steve Pierce at MB Beaconsfield.

Hope that helps.

I haven't checked the post for a while so here is an update.

After the car had been in to the dealer 5 times and had 2 new boot locks fitted with no resolution of the issue I emailed Merc head office. There was a flurry of activity from the dealer and they eventually admitted that it is a known fault!. Apparently a number of SL's have the same issue. Merc are working on a fix but it could take a few weeks.

It's a very minor fault but I bought a 70k car (it was a 3 month old ex demo so I didn't pay the full price) that was, and still is, faulty. I'm sure they will fix the fault in time but I feel very disappointed and slightly cheated.

I'm in the retail business myself and if I sold an item for £10 and I didn't sort out a fault within 6 months I'd have Trading Standards on my back.

Hi Guys,
I have just bought an sl350 R231 series and I have the same problem with the boot.
Been in dealer twice now and they cant seem to repair it, replaced boot latch twice with no result. Antone know if MB have found a cure yet.
Thanks
Alex
