Hi,

As it is a lovely afternoon here in the south I thought i would share an update of the fun I have been having bringing my (new to me) 1991 500sl up to standard...

I bought it unseen from ebay (big risk but guy couldnt use a camera and has trouble typing it seems...) on bank holiday monday.

It has only covered a few thousand miles in the past 10 years of ownership and the guy I bought it from has it that time invested quite a bit of time and money - with the bills to prove. In the last 300 miles it has had a new roof, new gearbox (auto 4 speed), wheels refurbed, new ignition module, some paint etc

I paid a very fair price (less than what he has spent) and nursed it home the 80 miles (with the coolant light on).

Upon inspection it is very solid all round but so far I have carried out the following:

Full service -fluids - coolant, oil, - plugs, leads, etc
Full valet
Full check over

Last week when taking for a drive the lights on the dash came on like a christmas tree - abs, roof bar, snow button and one I cant remember. Thanks to this forum it turns out the fuse no5 was shorting so having replaced all the fuses through the car it is now all fixed :bannana:

Last night I was looking for a new grill and star as it was looking a little worse for wear - not broken just tatty. I have solved this problem by using a very fine sandpaper and going over the grill bars which have come up like new

There is a few interior bits to clean up, and the passenger window switch is sticky - so they are the jobs for this evening...

The car will be at the GTG on Saturday so look forward to seeing you all there :)

Sounds like you got yourself a good bargain if the fuse is all that was broken!
