I have a strange one here which I am not sure of...

Just bought a late 2002 SL500 from a MB Direct, with 35,000 miles on the clock. It was sold with full MB history but when I went to collect the car and had a look at the service book (which is a duplicate) the last service, which was a B service, was done 13,000 miles ago. However, on looking at the cluster it tells me the next service is not due for another 10,000 miles and is another B service!

Am I right in thinking there is something strange here and it is either missing an 'A' service stamp, or someone has reset the ASSYST and A service is due right about now, or will it really will go 23,000 miles (and 2 1/2 years) between oil changes or services???

Thanks

Thought the maximum time interval (regardless of mileage) between services was 2 years.

Something wrong there 13 k is about the max without a service

Mine had the first service at 8901 miles on a A
the next B was at 11672 but 2½ years gap, and the last A at 21973 some 2½ years later again

Yes, thank you for confirming my doubts, it sounds a little fishy to me and is not what I expected from a MB dealer.

I was told that they can go on for 24,000 miles without service buy the sales manager but I do not know if he is just feeding me BS and would like to try and verify this.

When MB reset the ASSYST after a B service what does the service interval on the cluster jump to? If it is 12,000 miles until next service does this figure actually INCREASE over time - surely not??

If the car is not used much, then it will be done on time, other than that about 13,000 miles my last service 21973 was in 25-07-07 and the next in is due in 6k miles, thats what it say, and that is about 10k in all

Here is my history (on a SL 350) if it helps

A service 14085
B service 28505 plus brake fluid change
Brake pads & discs changed at 32146
Next service due at 42500 from assyst

More evidence unfortunately :o

PS :Tyres running at about 22k miles per set:rolleyes:

Im told that there are sensors in the sump that can detect the quality of the oil therefore in theory if you used a lot /topped up alot/or renewed the oil then the assyst due service indicator could go higher.....but rather unlikely methinks!

I have no dipstick on the car so i cant tell the state of the oil....is this normal?

Spookily similar....but you dont use your brakes much ,do you ?( previous threads).

Makes you wonder just how "intelligent" the assyst is or just does it go on a time/mileage algorithm?

I am sure that it goes on a time/ mileage algorithm but I will not go just by what it says in the car,, I know the way that I drive the car and I will take it to 14k the next time

Not that much difference and probably well within the acceptable mileage variation

Just noticed (after all these posts) you spelling on your bottom line! anyone else mentioned it?

After 5 mins of looking at it I saw it, and no one has ever said a thing

Thank you, I will fix it now :)
