SL500 Shock Absorbers

Recently I was told by Mercedes of Salisbury that the rear dampers on my 2002 (R230 model) SL500 were leaking oil, and that they costs £1050 each and in total would be £2500 to supply and fit new dampers.

Obviously this is a large lump of cash, so I was wondering if there was an another solution, such as alternative parts or repairing the existing parts.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
