SL500 wee bit of damage

The general idea of salvage is to use second hand parts to keep the cost down....

Second hand 230 bits ?
and the market is flooded with 230 grills and bumpers, they are for sale everywhere body shells as well all so cheap

This one will never get back on the road with out a new shell

The only other one that I have seen was a black sl55 hit in the same place.

Of course if one was dodgy enough it could be bought insured and dry stored for a few months, then it could be the subject of an insurance claim having being written off beyond reasonable repair. Not that I'm suggesting doing that because that would be fraud and highly illegal, but as its a none recorded write off who would know when it had actually been written off?

Thanks to the internet (and our conversations) it would also have a text trail leading to the fraud.

The internet is strangely wary of fraud also and the "owned" threads are very common.

There are two schools of thought on that. Outright commerce and outright restoration. There is at times an example of a highly valuable car being restored to the highest quality but what you say applies to the common "repair and sell" merchant which is why crash repaired cars never sell for as much as perfectly kept cars.

.. who would know when it had actually been written off?

The police?
