I have been keeping an eye on these for a while now.

It looks like the newer ones (i.e. late 04 reg onwards with the DVD COMAND) with good spec (i.e. panaromic roof and keyless go) are all in the 60s, price wise.

SL55s with the CD COMAND tend be early 04 reg and earlier and are at least 5k cheaper. Is DVD COMAND really worth so much more?

The prices of these have not really moved by much in the last year or so.

I like this one:

I like this one

I don't like those wheels. I was looking at a silver SL55 the other day (just parked near it - not with a view to buying!!), and the wheels really spoilt it IMO.

I agree on the wheels - and a devil to keep clean too.....is that plate in the price?

very few SL55s (before last year's facelift) had non turbine wheels. I like the turbine wheels, and prefer them to the 5 spoke alternative in the SL55

the plate in not included, but it is 1 owner

Those wheels look great, but as said before a knightmare to clean

There are a few changes re the 2004 cars, that is that the later ones work on a MOST system and the earlier ones are OB

Re the driving of the cars there is no difference, the mapping is slightly better on the non cd Commands but there is nothing wrong with them, I am happy with my 2002 SL. There has to be a break point somewhere in what you spend

I talked the guy down the road into buying an SL, so he bought a 2006 nice car but £25k more than mine.

I fitted SL600 wheels to mine, so easy to clean and they look good, I have every extra known on mine

Keep your eyes open m8. My ML is up for change in 3 months and I am seriously considering one of these. :)

Anyone for an ML? ;)

Mark.

My only problem with the R230 (apart from the money of course :o ) is that it can't do this :D

Have you got a towbar?;)

LOL I was astonished to see in the handbook that my R129 is rated to tow 1500 kg.

Soon chop a hole through that for the towbar to poke through :D

Out of idle curiousity, is the R230 actually rated for towing? Some modern cars aren't, because of the extra time/cost involved in European Type Approval. Ford Ka is the common example that springs to mind ... people buy a jetski or dinghy then find out they're not allowed to fit a towbar.

Interesting point the is nothing listed for the towing weight in the book, so I guess that is the case

I have been toying with the idea of R230 SL55 upgrade as well, but I have to say that is part of the fun with the R129, the nephews/nieces love going for a burn with the roof down :o so far the smiley faces have won the day :)

PS for the record - 5 Spoke AMG alloys are the mutts nutts
