I'm thinking of changing my SL500 to an SL55 AMG
The seller says its derestricted but is that an F1 Performance Pack car
And how do I prove it ?
Thanks

Drive at at 156+ mph ?

That said, a basic remap can take the limiter off. Send the VIN to AMG for verification instead!

Got a link to it? They normally have a large side vent on both sides of the front bumper infront of the wheel.

Plus two piece wheels, massive brakes (390mm IIRC - not the usual AMG 8-pots with 360mm ones).

Should be limited to 300kph (186mph). Also has an LSD.

Look for option pack 030 on the data card.

Yes option pack 030

In the Book Pack there should be one marked "SL55 AMG Performance Package" with information in German, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Russian and Arabic.
My book was still in the pack that came with my car but I've never seen another.
Derek.

yes it has the vents at the side of the front bumper

Good sign!

If you get the VIN I can run a data card off for you of the original build spec.

Thanks all for your input

So, having decided it's more than likely a F1 SL55 my next question is .....

How does it differ from the SL500 (apart from faster !)

My SL500 is a very high spec car with £93000 new list - quick, cruiser etc

My other cars are "hard core" Porsche so I am concerned that I am swapping a lovely cruiser with punch for all punch

Oddly both cars are exactly the same externally and internally re colour and leather combos

Will I miss the SL500???

I think you should have a test drive in any SL55. The power delivery from a supercharged engine is quite savage compared to n/a and it may not b to your liking.
I'd describe the SL500 as a refined cruiser and a SL55 a lairy thug:D
Try one, or at least have a run in a 55k engined car and see if you like the power delivery. It's not for everyone.

My Mrs would not drive my SL55, she did not like the delivery (513 lb/ft at 2600 rpm) There is no build up it just delivers as soon as you touch the throttle.

She has no problem with the n/a SL63 as it is very docile at low speed/rpm.

To avoid all doubt why not just follow the advice already posted and supply your VIN?

You may be right but having side vents doesn't make it conclusive.

SL55 P30...

AMG Alcantara-trimed sport steering wheel
186 mph top (electronically limited)
AMG Active Suspension with "Nurburgring" calibration 20% stiffer
AMG Lager more powerful braking system
AMG 19" two-piece double-spoke alloy wheels
AMG locking differential
AMG SL65 Front Bumper with Vents
Additional Oil Cooler
Carbon Fibre Trim.

Ooo... what's this AMG Lager? Is it a dealer only supply? :) :)

Thanks to Will
Agreed it's the real thing !
So next step is full MB health check
Onwards

I was giving it thought
But at £85k + I decided that even man maths was against me
Also pondered a CL65 but was told to avoid like the plague
The 65 AMGs seem not be popular with the people who service them
Big bucks
