they are although rumours were those early cars don't have the same bhp output. But as I say they are very clearly 500sl's with 6l engines and off balance sheet cars. They were not officially documented like said above making it difficult to know what is real etc.

What fake news would that be? Designations change (as they did in the normal Mercedes range) but they're still a 6 litre M119 under the bonnet.

I can perhaps countenance that in so far as the base 500 engines were rated a few hp less when they moved from KE to LH injection, but we're only talking 1 or 2 percent. I expect the rumours you mention are making considerably larger claims
