slk 230 auto box fluid level

Hi, i am a new member and have just bought a 1998 slk 230 auto, all in all i am pleased with the car, but am unable to check the fluid level in the auto box, i have removed the plug, but there is no dipstick !, is this normal, ? finally, anyone know if a manual for the slk exists?,i cannot find one, thanks , be879
