Hi,
Am I right in thinking that a 2009 SLK with COMAND -(hard disc based including SD card slot) should have a lever on the right of the steering wheel to operate the Linguatronic?

I suspect that the muppet who retrofitted it on behalf of the dealer couldn't or wouldn't remove the steering wheel to do the job properly.:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

Another job to add to the list.

:DI hope you are right as the muppet might not be who you think.

Surrely they had all the relevant items that we required for this retrofit?

The muppet is the same guy who put the wrong colour white parktronic sensors as well as the CANBUS interface for an auto car in a manual vehicle, and the mickey mouse installation.

The reason I am questioning this is because we are still waiting for the COMAND manual to be provided by the dealer, but today, being such a nice day I was sat in the car and having a play with the COMAND. On digging through the linguatronic menu it asked me to confirm by pulling the lever....

The dealer is making arrangements to do a full in-house retrofit of the full, correct 'factory' parktronic, and I will at the same time get them to install the voice control lever.

Certainly not cheap options to have retrofitted. On the SLK I guess you only have the one row of warning lights on the dash? Will that mean the dash has to come out?

I am only asking this as I know quite a few folks who complain of squeaks and other noises coming from the dashboard of vehicles that have been taken out and re-installed.

Good luck with these upgrades

Glojo,
these are not 'upgrades' but merely an attempt to get Mercedes Benz of Macclesfield to finally deliver what we have been paying for since we bought the car at the end of March. It was an existing vehicle - white manual SLK with sport pack. My partner wanted COMAND - they said OK - we will retrofit. My partner also wanted Parktronic - They said OK we will retrofit - I asked if it would be as per factory, because I am aware of the difficulties and expense - they said it would be, all apart from the button on the dash to switch it off. I was prepared to live with that so we did the deal.
They subcontracted the retrofit to a 'top' installer with whom they had an existing arrangement and who had been working with them for years. AV solutions in Bury.
He fitted the COMAND and that seemed to be OK, but as we had never had the manual, I was unsure on the SLK how the voice control worked, and my partner wasn't bothered to go through the teaching process for the car to establish the profile. That is what I started to do today, as I had the feature in a courtesy car (W211) on Thursday and found it quite useful. The Parktronic install is total crap - see other threads with pictures - and now it seems the COMAND install is not complete either.

I still don't have the COMAND manual either, nor the service book - but I have been told that they no longer provide service books(?). I am thoroughly pi$$ed off with them at Macclesfield - particularly having bought 2 new cars from them in the past year.:mad::mad:

I feel for you and I am surprised how the dealer was so quick to offer a retro fit but they have and I fully understand your frustration. They have commited themselves and now it is time to deliver :) .

When we ordered our vehicle I was assured by the sales person that linguatronic was not an option for the early S211..

Two weeks before taking delivery of our vehicle I spoke to someone on the forums who actually had this factory fitted option!!! I was fuming, fuming because I had been told an untruth by someone I had believed. I imediately contacted the sales person and eventually managed to convince this person they had made a mistake but sadly the order could not be altered.

To make matters worse we were told the item was NOT a retrofit option??? I was offered compensation, or the opportunity to re-order my vehicle with the correct specifications.. I did not want compensation and I could not wait another four months for a replacement order :(

Mistakes happen and the sales person had failed to keep abreast of all the different options that each model has. I am just surprised how your dealer has offered this retro-fit as it will be so very, very expensive.

If there are any owners of an SLK reading this post then hopefully they can supply you with the part number for the COMAND manual. We also got a DVD with ours showing us how to operate it. (No idea where it is now)

Just looked at your other thread showing the parktronic. I wont add to your misery but it looks just the same as the one my son had retrofit to his ML and he's never been satisfied with his. The parts are not OEM, just the same as my sons:(.

Anyhows, good luck and I hope it gets sorted to your satisfaction.

Portzy.

It will - believe me, it will!
There are 2 reasons that it has taken so long to resolve. Firstly, I have been particularly busy at work and could not give this more than passing attention - but secondly, and more importantly I have been firm and consistent with the stealers. I have put things in writing, and given them opportunities to redress. My busiest times at work have eased off, and this is now right at the top of my list.
There have been some changes of personnel at the top of this branch, but both they and I are now beginning to get focused on the solution.

You should have a 'service guide' booklet with a wallet flap at the back to put the service report in. There is no space for stamps in the book, the dealer holds the records and just gives you a printout of them.

They could have given you the first car on loan when it arrived and while waiting for the second order to arrive? Would have thought that would be fair.

Very, very expensive if done properly presumably...

Linguatronic isn't a standard fit with COMAND - it is an extra. So unless the dealer agreed to retrofit Linguatronic as well as COMAND he may not have even fitted it.
I also doubt that the parktronic system isn't a retrofit factory system it is more likely a good quality after market one as the retrofit factory system is very very expensive.

If in doubt have a word with Alfie at Comand Online Ltd

Good luck

Just saw this was solved...hope all was sorted to your satisfaction

Linguatronic should be standard with the new NTG2.5 and NTG4 Comand. But this should not mean that all relevant parts were automatically installed when NTG2.5 is retrofitted to a car that previously had an older Comand or even a basic head unit. The details have to be agreed with the shop who takes the task.

The voice control is standard on this COMAND, and the menus are available but there is no lever to confirm or activate etc..

I will throw it back at them to resolve when they are fitting the 'factory' parktronic.

The only part that is so far 'solved' is that it has been confirmed that there should indeed be a lever on the steering column.

I wasn't sure if it was that, or a button on the steering wheel or some other way.

As for the expense - not my problem!
