Thanks

first time i have had no answers

Sorry I missed this beofre.

I had problems with my roof but it never stopped partway through the opening or shutting process. Mine just jammed shut and turned out to be the boot catch that was out of line.

I did hear of there being a problem along the lines that youmention though in the past. Sorry but I can only recommend you take it to the garage - perhaps not the dealer though - unless you have a warranty on it - which might not cover the roof anyway - but try an independent specialist;)

I believe there was a micro switch problem on these cars that had a recall of some kind. Someone i used to work with had this problem on their car, think it was either an 02 / 03 year.

working again !!

Hi Just replaced most of the micro switches thanks to the help from the site posted by stargazerplusthanks again for that,it seems it was the front switches at fault the cost of these from mercedes £30.00 all the others only £11.75 each, the dealer quoted 8 hrs to fit it took me about 4!

hi awg454,

Just joined and I have spent a hour trying to work out how to send you a private message and now given up

I have an R170 SLK and the roof is playing up, (doesn't always close), seem you changed the microswitches but I tried looking at that german site and could tell which bit to translate, any help would be greatly appreciated

You cannot PM until you have at least 30 qualifying posts. The microswitches are the usual culprits, especially the one on the boot seperator.

Portzy.

If the boot seperator switch was faulty the roof would do nothing as it thinks the seperator is open. The usual switch that sticks is under the roof headling and is worked by the catches in the fromt roof section. There are 3 screws along the front of the lining and 2 or 3 holding on the side trims. Its usually the right hand switch jammed in. The left and right switches are in series so if either switch fails the boot will open up but the front won't release. They aren't too expensive and resonably easy to fit.

alibally, thank you very much, I'll get the parts and then replace the front two as you suggest!
