I have bought a X reg that has Lucida wheels which are part painted and part polished metal. They also have a lot of corrosion and an amount of kerb damage.

A well know refurb co. near MK has been honest enough to say that if I were to go for 'as orig' then the problem would reappear after a couple of years. What do you think I should do: -

• Orig. and be careful.
• Just get them painted (I keep reading about chrome paint)
• Buy a new set (in which case I would go for adharaz - I want std Merc and they seem the most popular).

re Lucida wheels

I'm on the lookout for some Lucida wheels for an SLK. So if you do decide to replace them can I have first refusal ?

As a matter of interest, these wheels do seem to have been a real nuisance for corroding and lifting the lacquer. My original set were replaced under warranty at just over 2 years old. At the time the dealership service manager told me they had replaced dozens of sets of this type of wheel for corrosion problems.

I now only use these wheels in summer, and so far (3 summers) they are OK apart from one small spot on 1 wheel.
