have noticed when sitting in traffic my clk320 tends to emit far more white smoke than other cars dependant on weather conditions, firstly what exactly is it and secondly has anyone else noticed this on their cars?

cheers

Is it when the engine's cold or warm or does it not matter?

thought it might be steam, def puts out a lot more than other cars, worse when cars cold and more noticeable in cold weather obviously, merc feature perhaps?

perhaps the other cars you are next to have just had more time to warm up :D

But it just sounds like it's a normal cold start thing linked with the choke etc rather than smoke and something to worry about Some cars do steam more than others ;)

Big engine = lots more steam than the people with their little :D cars!!

Seriously though, should go away after a few minutes unless weather is exceptionally cold.

thanks all for the replies, didn't think it was anything serious, just curious

Do you do a lot of short journeys?

If the steam doesn't clear up after the first bit of faster driving then it's possible the Cat isn't working so isn't heating.
Check how long the steam continues.
