Gutted, just took my car out a run and all off a sudden started pouring smoke out the back. It seems to be burning oil. Got home and wasn't as bad. Back end of the car is covered in oil and car is stinking.
Anyone experienced this?
It's under warranty so will be on the phone to MB tomorrow.

i thought id read somewhere that these can leak autofuid when the box gets hot and the leak gets onto the exhausts causing smoke?

i may have miss understood tho

Wasn't driving particularly hard. First time I opened it up after engine oil came up to temperature it started smoking badly. By time I'd driven home it had stopped smoking.

The more I think of it the more I get annoyed. I have only put 200 miles on the car since picking it up. Hopefully MB will be fine to deal with when I phone them tomorrow. Just so glad I never bought it private.

sorry to hear this hope you get it sorted

Seems odd. Good thing u have warranty. Anyone had this issue on a facelift car?

Get irritated, by all means, but not annoyed.

Most likely scenario is that either the engine or the gearbox have been over filled with oil. It's the dealer's problem. They will fix it.

First thing I looked at was engine oil and that's bang on the top mark.
Did think maybe overfilled and excess crank pressure. See what they say tomorrow. Just wanted to go out a drive and enjoy the car.

I understand your disappointment, but my suggestion is that you calmly ask the dealer to fix the problem rather than being angry when you do so. I know you're justified in being more than a bit miffed, but human nature being what it is, if you play this right the dealer will fix it and remember you as the nice guy that they screwed up with, rather than the car that they screwed up with owned by the a$$hole who brought it back. Guess which one they'll be more interested in helping in the future? ;)

Not angry, just annoyed. I'd never phone up anyone angry and demanding. All I said was I was annoyed and I'm well within my rights to be. How the dealer treats me from now on is how I will base my feelings and opinions. The only reason I bought that particular car was how I was treated. So hopefully they'll be as good with there after sales as they were when I bought it.

Damn - sorry to hear this! Inclined to agree oil overfill.
Presume AC Inverness will be getting a choice phone call tomorrow....

Oil level is fine. So that's not the issue.
At end of the day I'm sure they didn't expect this to happen so going to be friendly. I was going to be calling them anyway as I've not got my v5 yet.

Has it had a gearbox fluid change recently? They can breath a bit if overfull and it drips on the exhaust, had this on mine with plumes of smoke out the back yet not a problem.

Could be the breather on the diff case has stuck open and it's blown oil onto the exhaust.....have a look and see if diff case is wet around breather ( the breather is on the top drivers side if I remember correctly).

That's the car picked up and away to MB on the back of a recovery truck.
I think it could well be oil running onto the exhaust rather than burning it. There is oil on the ground obviously from my car since I parked it up. Hopefully will be something simple.

Will be looking forward to your next thread saying all is now well. My money is on a GB overfill and spouting the excess from the breather pipe but we wait with baited breath.
